I thought it might be good to do a poll just to see where we stand as far as names people like. I tried to be thorough and list most everything that people had come up with within the capacity of the poll. Of course this poll is not definitive and it doesn't mean that one of these names has to be the name ultimately chosen; it's more of a tool to see where people's preferences are leaning and to focus discussion when we do finally meet to decide.

Feel free to add others below as before.

I realize this is coming in a bit late, but looking at the poll made me think of another name, The Sixth Street Irregulars, which I prefer to the other variations on incorporating 6th Street so far.

I like that one. Has a slightly 'Weird Austin' bent to it.

FWIW, I voted for the 6th street variants and Aztec Empire.

Hm. According to a couple online translation programs (for what that's worth!) Irregular works in both languages!

...but I wouldn't be shocked in the least to find out that we're back in gay territory again.

We could go for a name like "Handbags at dawn" and probably discover a reference to some violent and "mucho macho" outfit....:p

I think it's time we meet to discuss this matter and get it out of the way. Just over two months to the first match, and we still need to come up with Anti-Houston chants and whatnot for the game. Considering how long we've been at the name, it may take some time.

I agree. I've been trying to decide if we need to have a TV event to rally around... or if it would be better to just pick a time and place and not have anything else around to distract us.

I'm definitely going down to San Antonio on Sunday, the 9th, and am planning on watching the tryouts on Saturday the 8th.

But for a non-distraction option, how 'bout next Wednesday (5th) happy hour over at Mother Egan's?

Works for me.

You local guys need to meet and discuss some stuff...while drinking a few beers perhaps!

Us very much far away guys will sit back, it must be a local decision...

We didn't decide anything officially yesterday, but the following idea just occurred to me and I'm wondering what others might think of it. Eric will probably like it: It's a play on the City of the Violet Crown moniker. Something like the Violet Kings, Kings of Violet (I like the way that sounds better, even if it doesn't make a lot of literal sense), Violet Chiefs...something like that...anyway, see what you think.

I feel like there's something I should know about Violet. Can someone clue me in?

It's a very old nickname for Austin (http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/library/ahc/faq3.htm). Reading that entry, it would be a very obscure reference, and I know absolutely nothing about the story, but "Tictocq" might be an interesting choice for a name.

Somehow feels a little Clockwork Orange, dangerous.

Of course, looking around and the five of us last night, you could see we were about as dangerous as accountants.

Well, creative accounting can do a lot of damage. Ask an Enron pensioner.

According to Wiki

"Austin, Texas

According to the City of Austin's History Center, the phrase was first used in O. Henry's story "Tictocq: The Great French Detective, In Austin", published in The Rolling Stone on October 27, 1894. (http://www.io.com/%7Exeke/tictocq.htm)

In chapter two of Tictocq, O. Henry writes: "The drawing-rooms of one of the most magnificent private residences in Austin are a blaze of lights. Carriages line the streets in front, and from gate to doorway is spread a velvet carpet, on which the delicate feet of the guests may tread. The occasion is the entrée into society of one of the fairest buds in the City of the Violet Crown."[2]

The phrase is also said to be connected to the moonlight towers of Austin[3]."

I'm having second thoughts about the Calle 6 name (http://www.habana.com/)...

Don't like Cubans?

Well, I guess I did leave that wide open for interpretation.

No, nothing against Cubans. Just think it would be better to have a name that's not the same as any establishment. Same reason that it Waterloo [anything] is probably out of the running.

Just stepping back into brainstorming territory for a minute, here:

As we talked about at Mother Egan's the other night, it would be great if the Aztex had a shield-shaped logo (crest, whatever you call it), following in the great and easily-recognized tradition of football clubs the world over.

There was talk of drafting some ideas; Roma Wolves kicked it off (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14046892&postcount=17).

Anyway, it made me think, could that be a possible supporters' group name? Something "shield"? The Aztex Shield? Shield De Aztex? Surely Aztecs had shields... Or, spears? Spears & Shields (i.e., offense & defense)?
