I can't think of a signing that has been better. maybe Ballack. I had doubts at first, but the guy is a fecking stud, plain and simple. Also might be surprised because I do not watch Serie A and Fiorentina never was in the UEFA competitions.

I would agree with you if this had been Toni say 3rd or 4th season. I am not at all saying that I disagree that Toni "could" be the best signing in the last decade, but before a bold statement like that is made, you need to have given a player a chance to weather a couple seasons.
Also, remember, greatness seems to be measured in sporting events based on trophies won, and so far, Luca Toni hasn't won a single one yet.
Here's to hoping he brings home at least one this season!!! :D

For all we know Sosa could develop into one of the greatest ever and Toni could have a sudden form dip. It is waaay to early to make such statements. Reminds me of the Schweini talk after a certain game in 06

I will concur with you regarding him needing a few seasons, but sheesh, he makes it look so easy. He's been the scorer we've been missing since Elber departed.

Not a bad thread though; perhaps DF can change the title to "Bayern's Best Signing of the past decade".
It will be fun to see where it turns.

Absolute truth you speak. I don't disagree. I hope he has a long a properous career at Bayern. He was the steal of the summer.

No..that would be the money we got from ManU for Hargreaves. ;)

.... which then allowed us to purchase said striker. So, true - you are correct. Nice work detective!
Actually, wrong thread, but I think a player like Hargreaves would allow us some lattitude with Ribery and Klose playing as recessed strikers behind a lone target, Toni. This would move Ze and MVB up slightly, but give three good supporting players, and eliminate the Ottmar Daycare ob der Flanks.
See "Tactics and Formations" thread...

Or Tobias Rau.
I would be more inclined to say Elber or Effenberg (the 2nd time around) as our best of the last 10 years.

Eissman said to base it on trophies won! I agree that Makaay has better stats than Elber. I'm just simply going on watching Bayern with my own eyes for the last decade. I think Elber was a better player and I can see why others would say Maakay. Personally, I would have liked to have seen them both play up front in that 03-04 season before we let Elber go on.

elber was really quite a player...i remember one amazing hattrick he scored in about 95 or so for stuttgart v/s bayern I think. The last goal was a bicycle kick in the tightest of spaces in the box.
I would say elber has to be the answer to this thread. Effenberg was bought just before the cut-off wasn't he?

Effenburg was a legend no doubt. I still didn't like him flipping me off at Soldier Field though.

Er... wasn't that in Dallas? I was at Soldier Field and I am pretty sure it happened elsewhere. I seem to remember it was somewhat synonomous with the heatwave going on in the Southern States. Yep, pretty sure it was Dallas.
Nonetheless, I know what you were saying... definitely the largest 'black mark' on Effenberg's career. Totally classless. His time at Bayern helped erase all that for me, personally.

I actually like the fact that he flipped off the crowd. Effenberg was a bad-@ss and a jerk. He didn't take sh!t from anyone and would not have been half as successful if he acted in a more calm cool way. One of my favorite Bayern players ever.
