Are you nuts, that what got him the recognition in Portugal in the first place. He ate of defenses that way.
Ronaldo is 23, you realize that right....23...
I was talking about when his career is over.
Also don't talk like i don't know anything about him or his past, when i told everyone i wasn't half portuguese i lied, just like i lied about a million other things that day, i was try to do something and it didn't work, also i told you my second name is Lopez, well its not its Lopes but i just think the z sounds better.
Anyway i said this because i know alot more about Ronaldo than you think so my opinion is an educated one.
Ronaldo is not as good as the statistics say, Messi, Kaka, Villa, Ronaldinho(soon) and Iniesta on a good day are all better.
I know more about football than you and teso give me credit for.

So this is why you feel as if you need to credit yourself...
No Portuguese speaking person would ever claim the "Z" for an "S". Its a sin.

I don't know any other Portuguese people apart from myself so how the hell would I know and i don't speak any Portuguese.
Lopes does sound rubbish compared to Lopez anyway.

Regardless, Ronaldo would feel right at home in Spain. The added time on the ball would be beneficial to himself and especially his team.

Ronaldo will never have a great team game for Portugal until they fix the fundamental problems they currently have in the side. While he was fouled at times versus Brazil you could tell he was getting increasingly frustrated by what the rest of his team were not doing.
The whole squad and formation was ineffective but that does not exclude Ronaldo's poor performance.
When he has more time and starts thinking too much he does too much needless stuff and loses his effectiveness, if you stand off him he sucks, he needs players to commit themselves early or quickly if stationary.
.
Zippy does have a point here. Ronaldo is great at making a fool out of defenders that commit themselves and go all in. He feeds on that and has incredibly quick feet to get around them. La liga is generally better at defending speed and dont commit as readily. They give the attacking player more space. That is not to say ronaldo wont succeed there, but i dont think he will be as effective as he is in the premier league.

It will be interesting to see Cristiano tested in Spain when he finally gets his move to Madrid next summer. :)
In England he's known as a flat track bully. An individual who always shines against the weaker, less organized times, but in the crunch games too often struggles to make any impact.
Obviously today you'd take Cristiano Ronaldo over the ageing Brazilian every single time given the choice. ;)

Althought not as potent against the larger teams as he is against the weaker teams, his CL performances cannot go without merit. He scored in the Semi and Finals in last years CL. Continously dragged 2 oppenents wherever he went and allowed space on the other side....What more can one want?

This notion really infuriates me. Although, it is not as prominent as you make it out to be. It is mainly Gooners, Chavs and Scousers who say it. Everyone else just says that he is the best player in the world.
Anyway, last year he got a goal and an assist away to Arsenal, scored against Liverpool, scored a winner away to Lisbon, scored a last minute winner at home to Lisbon, scored the winner in the last 16 against Lyon, had an unbelievable performance and scored against Roma in the QF and scored and was man of the match in the final of the Champions League. You could even lower your standards of what is a big game, and mention that he scored two against Everton and got a goal and 3 assists against Aston Villa. Also, despite playing with an injury, he played pretty well at Euro 2008, including a brilliant performance against Czech Republic. In the past, he was named man of the match in a world cup semi final, and was great at Euro 2004 at the age of 18. He was also named man of the match in the FA Cup final (and scored in the Carling Cup final too). Do you still think that he is a flat track bully who doesn't perform in the big games.

Ronaldo does and has performed in big games, but your ratings are completely misleading. First, Everton, Lisbon, Villa are not big matches. Second, I dont know who declared he was man of the match in the CL final, and whatever source did, I would question their credibility. He scored a good goal, made some nice moves, but disappeared for much of the game and missed a crucial penalty. That's not to say he had a bad game but just not MOTM. Third, he played no where near player of the year contender level in euros. I wouldnt say he played 'pretty well' especially taking into fact that he's favorite to win POY. Lastly, I keep repeating this in other threads, scoring does not equate to an overall good performance in the match. Someone could score or assist and still have a poor game, especially if they have more opportunities to score and take nearly all their team's penalties, free kicks.
Now, I am not trying to discredit him, but some posters overrate his contributions based on his stats.

Compared to players like Kaka and Messi he turns up for very few big games.

Thats the thing though. How do you overrate 42 goals last year?

By claiming no one else was on even near his level, he is already an all time great, including him in their best 11 of all time. His stats say a lot about his season but people are getting carried away with the impact of his performances.

Messi was on his level. But he got injured for half the season, so we do not know if his form would have continued.

I dont think it was half the season and this season messi has no doubt been more impressive.

Only slightly due to his current performance in the Champions League.

Messi has been impressive during the league as well though. Either way I expected more from ronaldo the way some overrate him and from someone claiming to be the first, second, and third best player in the world.

What? Dude he missed over a month and a half of this season recovering from surgery. Yet he has 8 goals and 3 assists so far.
I swear to god people make rediculous statements. What do people want from Ronaldo before he gets credited? Fly a spaceship to the moon?

Joelzinho, read the context of my post. I expect more out of someone that rates themselves as first, second, thrid best player and from some posters claiming he is an alltimer already.
And do you think he has been in player of the year form since returning? Today's match is a perfect example. What i am posting is not rocket science. Messi missed a few months last winter but then has been in great form, ronaldo was less than stellar over the summer and missed half of this season and since returning has not been on messi's level. That is not a stretch to say, and so one considers better from someone claiming to be the first, second, and third best player of the world.

If Ronaldo is not one of the top 3 players in the World, then your view on the game probably needs some readjustment. I will watch the Aston Villa game tonight, make a further assessment, and then return here. Messi's form so far has never been in question, I stated previously that he has been playing better so far this season.
But last season was simply a no brainer. He scored 42 goals, top scorer in his domestic league as well as in the Champions League, numerous assists, aided his team in winning the EPL and the Champions League.
