Obviously. Portugal will not win a World Cup with C. Ronaldo and probably not a Euro, either.

Jeez that seriously is just dumb.
Yes because being in the final of the last Euro Cup & reaching the last 4 of the World Cup in germany indicates Portugal does not have a chance of winning both? In fact ever country in the world has done better. Only Ronaldo is quality for them!

Plastic logical used to give Ronaldo an excuse for poor games in the national team.

Clearly Portugal has the talent to win the Euro Championship & even the World Cup. Ronaldo is not the only talented Portuguese. They have shit loads of quality players everywhere. They only really lack a world class pure striker.

Only the Portugese think they can win a World Cup in the next 15 years. Portugal could win the Euros once, though.

The Portuguese are like the English....except England has actually won a World Cup :D

Club-wise. Portugal needs to get their shit together.

Yeah. Ronaldo really needs to build on his 20 goals at 23 years old... Only two of which are friendlies with the rest being in European Championship or World Cup cycles...

A shockingly accurate and good post from you.

Cristiano has something that Ronaldo will never have (a Champions' League trophy) and Ronaldo has something Cristiano doesn't have or might not ever have (a World Cup trophy). Fair enough statement?

Goals don't mean shit on the international stage if you don't have any trophies to back them up. Just useless statistics.

At this point in time, yes.

I disagree. I also disagree that international trophies, or any trophies for that matter, are somehow an indicator of player quality. Look up the likes of Best, Matthews and Roque Junior for proof of that.

I'd rather have a few goals and a World Cup trophy than a shitload of goals with nothing to show for it. Just my take.

You might but does it change anything about your talent as a player?

cristiano ronaldo is on his way of being better, time will tell. Longevity must count for something. Ronaldo of Brazil still has a better legacy.

There have been plenty of amazing players throughout history who haven't won anything. That's what hall of fames are for :D.

Ronaldo in his prime was better than CR7 in his prime(today).

Quite simply by comparing their respective scoring records at their 'peak'. What people refuse to acknowledge is that Ronaldo (of the C), a non-striker, has just completely blown away all of his peers and had a season that is simply unprecedented.

Not debating it was an amazing season for Ronaldo ... but IMO Henry's 02-03 and 03-04 seasons was very similar. Almost the same amount of goals and more assists (specially in 02-3 where he had 36 goals and 23 assists).

As you know, Henry used to be a winger as well and played a pretty similar position at Arsenal.

Ronaldo (R9)

League: 34 goals in 37 games

Europe: 8 goals in 5 games

Cup: 5 goals in 7 games

Brazil: 15 goals in 17 games

Season: 1996/97

Total: 62 goals in 66 games.

Ronaldo (CR7)

League: 31 goals in 34 games

Europe (CL): 8 goals in 11 appearances

Cups: 3 goals in 3 appearances

Portugal: 3 goals in 7 appearances*

Season: 07/08

Total: 46 goals in 55 appearances

*Competetive games only

-------

Consider CR7 is not a striker, CR7 played against CL opposition whilst R9 didn't, R9 played more games, CR7 was, at times, played out of position and we then have a debate on our hands.

Who's individual season was better then?

I'm perfectly fine with calling them even (best individual season).

In the end, it's the grand total career that matters, not a single season. Wait till both players are retired to start the real comparisons (not that they should be compared considering how different they are from each other).
