Down to two weeks.
Or maybe play continuous but with several one week breaks throughout the season, plus a two week holiday break?

The idea of cutting it down to 2-3 weeks seems to be gaining momentum. I say cut it down and add two teams to the league, there is plenty of infrastructure and demand to support that.
The pitches in several stadia have been horrible around Christmas, though.

It seems to me that this year's was longer than in the past. Am I correct?

To me it just ruins everything, its just another offseason when you have teams going to warmer climates like Dubai (like Hamburg) or Spain (like Hertha)...

No, in the 90s it was even longer (end Dezember to mid of Februar afairc).
There were indoor competitions, that were very entertaining
with many spectators. There was even a kind of cup with local
tournaments to qualify for the final tournament.
It was very entertaining and at the tournaments
there was a great atmosphere.
AS long as the summer-break won't be longer as a result I would be fine with only stopping three weeks.

I'm fine with the break. In the lower divisions you can't play through winter anyway (no heating there), and as far as the Bundesliga goes... who wants to watch football in the cold? :D There are also the extended regeneration periods for players etc., but this pales compared to the cold argument, of course.

It all depends. How does it help the national team??

I had many discussions over the BL's winter break period this year. I thought it was embarrassingly long. I'm tired now so I won't go into it, but tomorrow i'll try and give a good overview as to why I think it should be cut considerably.
