CHELSEA star Michael Essien scores an embarrassing own goal – by being pictured in an Arsenal shirt.


The midfielder, 25, who earns £90,000 a week, was snapped in the top of his London rivals on a trip to his native Ghana.


Essien explained his Gunners gaffe saying: “The shirt is one I swapped with Emmanuel Adebayor after a game last season.


“I gave it to my pal Eric. A girl asked for a photo. I didn’t want to do it bare-chested – so Eric lent me the shirt.”

Sometimes I think, from a fans perspective, it would be fun to support a team that buys players of Essien's quality. That said, I wouldn't trade AW or Arsenal for anybody.

He does play hard - I will give him that, and there's no denying he's talented. However, I think he plays with so much emotion he gives in to the desire to retaliate and he goes in with a lot of bad tackles. He also dives quite a bit, particularly for such a strong guy. Just look at the WC game v. U.S. to see what a dirty player he really is.

I don't mind a player going in with hard tackles, in fact that's they way I like to play, but when it looks like he's trying to hurt someone I really draw the line. Diving to me is cheating, some people may not think so much of it, but I do. If someone does it give them a red and show them the door.
