Have an awkward situation that i can't find a solution...as of yet.

I have software that requires Quicktime 5 to play certain .mov files...when i install QT5, all the .Mov files work correctly, but web based files do not work.(I'm assuming bc its an old version of QT) When i update QT5 to the latest version of QT7...the software videos do not work, but the web based videos work. Very strange.

Is there a plug-in for IE, Firefox etc?

Is is possible to have both version installed?

I've tried this on 3 different computers all using XP with identical results...i'm stumped.

Is is possible to have both version installed? No, it is only possible to have one set of codec's (that is, the underlying software that converts the file information to video) installed at one time.

There are a couple things you can try. First, download the free VideoLAN player (http://www.videolan.org/) which has the ability to play many forms of videos without using codecs provided by other companies. If that does not work, you will need some kind of tool for converting video from one format to another. Install version 5, convert the video to something else (mpeg-2, AVI, whatever is convenient on your computer) and then install the latest Quicktime. This will probably involve a little quality loss to the file, and depending on the software and the video quality probably take a long time to do (minutes, even hours if you have long DVD quality video).

Thanks for the reply. Seems Quicktime 6 worked and solved both problems. Also tried a few converting software, but got errors when converting.
