Liverpool legend Ian Callaghan (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/archivedirs/news/2006/sep/14/N153466060914-1143.htm) will be joining The Liverpool Supporters Club in New York, LFCNY (http://www.lfcny.org/) at The 11th Street Bar (http://www.11thstbar.com/) on Saturday, March 8th!!

Following on the heels of the successful Phil Neal event in 2006, LFCNY is bringing Ian to New York for this special event, taking place in tandem with the league fixture against Newcastle United that morning. Cally will be answering your questions, will be available for photographs, and will, of course, be sharing anecdotes from his remarkable career.

Ian holds the record by some margin for the most appearances for Liverpool with a whopping 857 games to his credit. He served the club from 1960 (when he signed on as an apprentice) until 1978; that's an astounding 18-year career with the Mighty Reds, most of those years under the guidance of one Bill Shankly, with the remainder under Bob Paisley's watch. Cally helped the club win the first FA Cup in its history, the first European Cup in its history and was the first Liverpool player to win the prestigious Football Writers Association Player of the Year award.

He also managed to pick up a few other baubles with Liverpool along the way; he was a member of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad to boot. The timing of Cally's visit to NY is perfect as it comes three days before the deciding Champions League tie against Inter Milan on March 11 - no doubt he'll have some anecdotes to share regarding that controversial European Cup semifinal against the Italians back in 1965.

So many honours, achievements and stories from a remarkable career to share - you will not want to miss it! Please come out for what should be a fantastic day with a Liverpool great.

Ticket details:

Tickets will be $15 each, with a limit of six per person. Admission to the bar on March 8th will limited to those holding tickets for the Ian Callaghan appearance. Only 125 tickets will be sold for the event.

Tickets will then be sold at The 11th Street during every LFC televised game until the day of the event. Any tickets still available on the day will be sold on a "first come, first served" basis.

Last time I was in New York, it was summer, so I couldn't go there for a match. I would have liked to have gone just to check the place out, but no one else seemed as up for it as I was :(.

This time, it's just as my spring break starts, I'd love to try and make it out there for the match and a nice little vacation. Thanks for posting this.

It is a small place and 125 people will be jam packed. I have enjoyed seeing a number of games there. People are always nice too. If you go I hope you have a great time.

I am jealous too. Callaghan was one of my all time heroes. I was at the match when he played his 800th game and they made a presentation to him.

I can't remember now if it is urban myth or not, but I think he either was never booked or got just one booking in his entire career.

I would love to go :(

Wikipedia says that Cally had only received one booking throughout his career.

Wikipedia says that Cally had only received one booking throughout his career.

Not that I trust wikipedia, but that fits with what I had heard before. One booking in 850+ matches, just unbelievable.

Whenever I think of Cally, I see him at full pace down the wing in front of the Paddock, heading to the Kop end. Stepping over slidetackles and Whiskey Bottles alike the grand night we played and beat Celtic in our first European season.

A good man is Cally.
