Announcing The New All Rocks 12-Week Cup

[1800-WorldCup]

The new 12-Week Cup (Summer, Winter and Spring versions) will replace the current Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup as of next season; so that we have three knockout cups instead of any league competition to 'seed' teams.

Hopefully this will prove more exciting for managers as we continue with the Rocking League Cup premise of turning losers into winners and trying to turn winners into losers.

Designated 'home teams' get a +1 bonus if the match is drawn.

If we still want to have a 'Cannon Twist' at the end of the season, we could use the winner of the last of the three cups (the 12-Week Spring Cup) for a possible extra promotion/relegation spot.

All drafted teams entered into the Olympic Championship League will be eligible to play.

League standings are used to seed the teams and we'll be giving it a test run as of next week (Gameweek 27).

In future seasons, Gameweek 1 will be played without us actually knowing the 'starting teams'.

Gameweek 1 fixtures and results will correspond to the Olympic Championship League table position after Gameweek 1 scores are archived; so that the second-highest scoring team will already lose to the top scorer and drop down to play the winner of the bottom scorers (Team 29 vs Team 30).

If we have more than 30 managers, only the top 30 scorers will enter the Summer Cup and subsequently the top 30 teams (after Gameweeks 12 and 26 updates) in the league will play in the Winter and Spring Cups.

the week 3 start works nicely in your latest revision. there's a million ways to do these things, but i was going to suggest as an alternate going to 13 weeks for at least two of the cups (or all 3 if they go forward with the 39-game season), with the end as follows:

it just seemed a little rough on the loser of 91 to get the same result as the loser of 92, but i guess that's part of the format.

I was thinking about overlapping the cups as well but in the end it seems better to have one cup finish before another one officially starts.

The 12-week format plays out well and means we have no stalls between the three cups.

It will be interesting to see how this year's 12-Week Spring Cup plays out but I don't think there will be any hitches.

If Team 1 loses to Team 2 (or vice verca) at the start they could theoretically meet again a few more times, if they win all their other games, and still meet each other in the final.

Likely to be little need for a tiebreaker with the proposed emphasis on the last 12-week cup, but it is possible to get to 11 by finishing 1st in Winter and 3rd in Spring so it could happen. If you need a tiebreaker, I'd propose adding up the number of weeks that each team lasted in each competition (not counting the 3rd and 4th place games), i.e., if you were eliminated in week 5 in Autumn, got first in Winter, and got third in Spring, you would have 28 tiebreaker points (5+12+11).

Personally, I don't like it being this heavily skewed and I'd opt for equal scoring between the three, but as I said before there is no right and wrong on this. I suppose the current year long competition presently skews things to the end of the season, but if we're having three, I'd call them equal. Otherwise, just keep it simple and base it on the last one. (My unsolicited two cents).

I first wondered about the weighing toward the later cups -- but one advantage to that could be that those "disenfranchised" teams that are out of other competitions late in the season still have a reason to stay active. I am happy with whatever is decided, with greatest weight going to whatever 1-800-does all the work.com prefers.

My humble thoughts; I do think it makes sense to overweigh the last Cup but perhaps by not so much over the middle Cup...as in some ways the middle of the season is most representative (except perhaps in ANC seasons) as early you get lots of new transfers in out of teams and late you get teams with little to play for, or cup focused teams fielding strange lineups, which can either be veiwed as more of a challange or more luck or some of both perhaps
