View Full Version : Des McKeown: Any idea what he's doing now?

Des McKeown wrote the great book Don't Give Up the Day Job chronicling a season in his life as a part-time footballer who also worked for Scotland's largest stationary company (which left one columnist to write "During the week, McKeown is a stationary salesman for Scotland's main paper concern. On saturday last, he was a stationary left back for Partick Thistle...")

Anyway, last I heard he was playing for Stenhousemuir, but in a pre-season friendly right before the start of last season against non-league Barrow, he sustained a double fracture in one of his legs. Hard for a 32, 33 year old guy to come back from that one.

So, did he come back? Is he trying for one more season, or did he hang it up?

Thanks if you can help.

I think he must have quit after that last injury. He does some work for BBC's television coverage of the football. Usually as an analyst on "Afternoon Sportscene", which is a final score service with some match reports and highlights. He started this work during the middle of last season.

thanks for the update. Like I said, as soon as I read reports of his injury, I didn't think he'd be back, especially since he sort of hinted in his book that he didn't like the strain his full-time work and part-time footballing was putting on his family life. Glad he's still with the game. Judging by his writing (which doesn't necessarily prove anything), I would guess that he'd be a pretty fair commentator.

Say, pretty decent result for your guys against QOS today.

Wasn't he in the Bay City Rollers at some point?
