ok bear with me. With the Confederations cup at an all time low priority on most Countries minds, and with the WC winner no longer getting an automatic berth, why not have the Confederations cup winner get an automatic spot. They could do 2 groups of 3. The winner of each group meet in the semis and the best second place team plays the WC winner. Here's what it would have looked like for this past Confederations cup
Group A- France, Columbia, Japan
Group B- Cameroon, USA, New Zeland
Semis...
France VS Cameroon
Columbia VS Brazil
then so on. Ok the format doesn't really matter, but I think that'd be cool to have the winner of the Confederations cup get an automatic spot, it would be done before any qualifing starts and we could make it once ever 4 years instead of 2.

It's a decent idea, but if the World Cup winner gets no automatic bid, there is no way they'll give a slot to the Confed Cup winner.
Really, the Confed Cup should be scrapped. Everyone's always complaining about a crowded fixture schedule, this is a prime way to eliminate some of that congestion, or give the European-based players an actual summer break.

i dont wanna nag or anyhting but thats part of why portugal italy, france and argentina did bad at the world cup..the europe based players..which was everytbody on there team lol..were tired from a long club season..and since most players on those teams play 4 top clubs, they were lonf long seasons.

The top three finishers at the World Cup were Brazil, Germany, and Turkey. All of them had most or all of their players in major European leagues. In fact, many of the top performers on the Brazilian and German World Cup teams (Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Lucio, Ballack, Neuville, Schneider) played for clubs that went all the way to the Champions League final just before the World Cup; Brazil and Germany should have been the two most tired teams in the tournament. Spain and England got to the quarterfinals, and Spain also had a bunch of players playing in the Champions League final. In fact, Argentina got eliminated from a group in which all four teams had the majority of their players in Europe.
That's 5 teams doing very well with players who in many cases had played even more matches than the French, Italians, Portuguese, and Argentines.

Sure they could, because the winner of the Confed Cup did it in the current World Cup cycle, the winner of the World Cup won that in the last World Cup cycle. This will invite people to make cracks about the US in the last WC, but 2006 has very little to do with 2002.
