Now, to defend Un bel di, vedremo, which got an "opera is yuck".
Father Guido Sarducci said in an April 13, 1988 interview for Papal Times that he will not eat eggplant parmagiano unless Un bel di is playing quietly in the background.
Guiseppe Verdi said, "If I had been alive when Puccini wrote Madame Butterfly, I'm sure it would have been my favorite opera."
The Italian musical review, I Chioccioli Danzanti, uses Un bel di, vedremo as their theme. They have received 4 consecutive Palme Di Oro awards in their native town, Bari.
Britney Spears was heard whistling the first several notes of Un bel di, vedremo as she was placed in the ambulance on January 3, 2008.

by the way, just to defend Some Velvet Morning, which has taken some abuse.
There have been more than a dozen recorded cover versions of the song.
It was, as mentioned, in the top 50 of Pitchfork's top singles of the 60s.
The music critics at the London Sunday Telegraph ranked it the No. 1 recorded duet of all time.
A band, an actual recording artist, took the name Some Velvet Morning in tribute to it.
I'm not saying you have to like the song, but you have to at least respect its influence, no matter how little you personally rate it.
No worries. Just like Honey and the Farm wannabee band trump that pick.

You don't need to defend this pick. "Ooh Baby Baby," on the other hand... I love Smokey, but this pick is like saying that "I Just Called To Say I Love You" is your fave Stevie Wonder tune.

Oh, how I wished I'd taken The Farm. I guess I still could.

Maybe, maybe, three people here are playing to win. Everyone else is just trying to show how wacky they can be. Isn't there a recording of Nepalese throat singing that's way past due for a pick on someone's list?
So what, you just show up nowadays to b**** about our picks. ;)
Yeah, I know it's a shame and all, but all these wacky picks are making it easy for me to be the clear winner.

I probably could have held on this pick until the end of the draft. This group is not as famous and well known as they should be. I absolutely love them. This was the first song I ever heard by them. I saw it originally on WorldLink TV's international music show. I fell in love. I went to see them live a couple months after seeing this video, and I fell deeper in love. So catchy. Incredible song.
They're so international. You can hear French, Spanish, African, Middle Eastern, American jazz and other influences in their music. I hope you like them.
If you have never heard of it, listen. Check into them. The singer is named Belle du Berry

Never heard of this group. I don't know if it's draft-worthy, but I have to admit, that song was cool!

Somebody already did.
Okay, so that's not true. But there was a big kerfuffle about Stevie Wonder several pages back.

I liked it too. So what do we call this type of music if we want to check out more of it?

Oh, how I wished I'd taken The Farm. I guess I still could.
It definately reminded me of them. And I like the Lem a whole bunch more than some of the more modern pop hits and the automatic stuff from some of the bigger bands.
This draft is kind of shocking me about how few hits from the likes of the Beatles, and those that fall just below that tier, I put in my top ten. It's almost like the greatness of some of their albums almost renders the top songs on those albums "team players".

Actually, this is the second Sinatra song. New York, New York was picked earlier. But yeah, he deserves at least a couple of songs, and I've Got You Under My Skin is as good as any..
My next pick coming up.

It's about time I pick a Beatles song. I didn't pick one earlier because there are so many I like, and it's hard to pick a favorite. But I settled on this particular song because it really rocks, it has one of their most politically relevant lyrics, and it remains as relevant today as it was when it was written.
My fifth Pick:
Revolution, by the Beatles.
Here:

REVOLUTION
You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you that can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright
Alright
You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're all doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright
Alright
You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We'd all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright [x10]
My picks so far:
1) Boca Mi Gran Amigo (Boca fans)
2) Heartbreaker (Led Zeppelin)
3) Summertime (Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong)
4) New Year's Day (U2)
5) Revolution (The Beatles)

At least it's John. We've been drowning in too much Paul sap. I'm just waiting for someone to take "She's Leaving Home."

I'm having a very hard time figuring out what's been picked. I don't think anyone's picked this.
