some interesting ties this weekend, starting tonight with what's sometimes called the eastern derby (for a good while strasbourg and metz were the only L1 teams in that neck of the woods) and continuing tomorrow with the brittany derby (nantes was never really in brittany, and nowadays isn't even in L1) and finishing sunday with the mediterranean derby (ASM's real derby is with OGCN and OM has their classique with PSG, but times were when this was THE clash in french football. obviously times changes except for ORTF.... errr antenne 2, errrr...) bordeaux-le mans is the remaining titanesque fixture, meanwhile OL and PSG get whipping boys.

you can't say the same for the LOSC, la duch as we call it has some pretty big coonskins on the buvette wall... and that's the match we're going to see. it so happens one of my son's classmates will be on the bench! he's the U-16 keeper for duch and due to injury he's presently backup on their CFA2 squad. if they win 3000€ will be one helluva payday for a 15 year old! for that matter it's one helluva payday for everyone on their squad so you can count on them fighting like junkyard dogs!

Results are now up for Friday's games at

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coupe_de_France_de_football_2007-2008

I couldn't find anywhere else to locate them, as ESPN SoccerNet does not have Coupe de France scores on its site and SoccerWay had those two games listed for Saturday. I also was not sure if it was appropriate to list the results here.

The Marseille-Monaco game on Sunday should be interesting - I'll be curious to see what happens there.

The English-language French League site has the results, round-by-round:

http://www.frenchleague.com/coupeFrance/resultat.asp

They don't have box scores or details, I guess because it's a French League site, but it's a good place to get initial results.

At the time I had checked (and posted), the French League website had not posted any results.

By the way, this might be a good site to keep an eye on:

Strasbourg-Metz : 0-3. We're talking about Metz, here, the Metz from Lorraine at the Meinau.

Since I am relatively new to French football, I was wondering if 28,114 is an extraordinarily large crowd for a CFA 2 team. That's what it appears the crowd total was that watched Poiré-sur-Vie play host to PSG yesterday (http://www.lepoiresurvie-vendee-football.com/merci.html).

I was really impressed with how intense the crowd was. That place was absolutely rocking when they tied PSG 1-1 in the second half.

Moving on, here are the match-ups for the next round to be played March 18/19 ...

Girondins de Bordeaux (L1) – LOSC (L1)
USJA Carquefou (CFA2) – Olympique de Marseille (L1)
Olympique lyonnais (L1) – FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (L1)
Dijon FCO (L2) – Tours FC (Nat)
FC Lorient (L1) – FC Metz (L1)
CS Sedan-Ardennes (L2) – SCO Angers (L2)
Amiens SC (L2) – AC Arles (Nat)
Paris SG (L1) – SC Bastia (L2)

At least three non-Ligue 1 teams are assured of a spot in the quarterfinals.

I would guess it's about 28x their usual attendance.
