We have reached agreement with Portsmouth for the transfer of Jermain Defoe.
Jermain joined us from West Ham United in the January transfer window of 2004 and went on to score 64 goals in 177 appearances for the Club.

The Club has reluctantly agreed the transfer of Jermain in light of there being less than 18 months left on his contract.

We wish him all the best for the future.

Yes yes, we wish all the best for Defoe, upstanding person and excellent player. Unfortunately, Keane was just better, so I can understand Jermain's desire to move on. G'luck to him.

Guess it's time for Bent to step up?

I'm really gonna miss Defoe, but if you don't play him, he isn't gonna want to stay.

Who's gonna take the place of Defoe as the fourth striker?

I will too. Very loyal player and he was good possibly the best sub in the prem. Wish him the best and hope he can break into the England National Team.

Wish Defoe all the best, got a great attitude and stayed loyal for a long time, he would start most premiership frontlines but sadley for him Keane and Berbatov are better. Will miss him.

Sad day to see him go, though we all had a feeling it would happen eventually. All the best in the future, I'll definently be rooting him on.

Defoe was the first Tottenham shirt I bought... he'll be missed.

How ironic, he's on the Spurs calendar for January. Guess they thought they should get him in while they can :o

It says a lot that the fans mostly like Defoe, even though his performances have often disappointed. Excellent attitude - the contrast with Chimbonda couldn't be greater. I really hope he gets back into the England reckoning.

Probably something similar to CRonaldo when he scored at Sporting earlier this season in the CL.

I hope.

Wouldn't that be something, if he came back next year? :)

Very strange this loan business.

Good on him for scoring against Chel$ki. We shouldn't be too bitter, I hear he missed a load as well :D

I watched the game and Defoe missed 2 or 3 other chances and was invisible in the first half but other than that he had a great debut.
