OMG!! is that messi I see on your list? and #1? are you drunk today?

I think that may be a backhanded compliment to the other inclusions. Of course, I'm inclined to think he's joking because Mascherano isn't on his list.

how about your top argentinos right now

mine

1) messi
2)aguero
3)cambiasso
4) tevez
5) maxi

That's actually a pretty good list and I respect the Cambiasso pick as well. With all the all out attacking talent we have he often goes unnoticed. For Inter he's been a lynch pin and while not playing the same for the shirt, he hasn't really stunk it up much either.

I'll change gears and go with top five defensive players for Argentina.

1) Javier Mascherano
2) Martin Demechelis
3) Gonzalo Rodriguez
4) Fabricio Coloccini
5) Walter Samuel

He's been gone a long time but I think Gabby Milito deserves to be on that list.

When he gets fit and shows good form then I'd consider it. Prior to his injury issue I wouldn't have balked at his inclusion. For the record I think Erick is in fact drunk. He has a BOCA avatar which for a Mexican is heresy. :D

So, I know we don't like to include defenders and goalkeepers in these lists () but Casillas just had the best five minutes I've ever seen from a keeper. At his best, he's a top 5 player in the game, and it looks like he's back to his best.

He was excellent in the clasico but throughout the entire season he's been inconsistent and has made some foolish mistakes.

As for Riquelme it's the past couple of weeks in which he's actually looked better this term. He's been pretty blah going back to the Clausura if not further for a myriad of reasons.

He's come up big with a goal or an assist in practically every single important match Boca has played the last couple of months.

River- assist
Rosario Central- assist
San Lorenzo - goal
Arsenal- goal
San Martin- assist
Racing- 2 goals
Colon - goal

Since Oct 19th Riquelme has had either a goal or an assist in every single match he's played with the exception of 3. A lot of them were game winners.

He underperformed at the beginning and we know he isn't at his best mostly due to the recurring injuries he's had but despite that he's still made an impact and has helped Boca to the final.

No question he's come up big but in just about all those matches he was at best a spectator for the majority of the 90 minutes. Over the past couple of weeks he has shown more assertiveness than at any point in the Apertura if not the Copa Libertadores final in 2007. You know how I feel about Riquelme but he's really had a stinker of a torneo compared to what he's done and capable of.

Yeah he's underperformed for a lot of those matches but he's still made an impact with a goal or an assist. That's why you need to keep players like that on. They might underperform but they can still change the game with a bit of magic.

Overall definitely but we know that he's had recurring minor injury problems through out the entire tournament as well. He didn't looked fully fit for most of the tournament.

No questions he's come up big when it was needed. I've never disputed that and have pointed that out in other threads. Even when he's struggled be it from injury or fatigue, he was considerably more mobile than he has been for most of this torneo. Naturally I would never imply that he should have been benched for the reasons you pointed out as well as not wanting to lose my fanboy status, but he really needed to be rested.

When you think about it BOCA should be no where near winning a championship with the injuries we've had all torneo and Roman just may be a big part of why we never quit.

Riquelme's problem is he been unfit for some time and while he has been injured a fair bit since as far back as Villarreal he has also looked lazier that normal. I believe that boludo at La Bombonera lit a fire in him.

I can only assume that anybody placing Messi anywhere other than number one in their lists has not watched any Barca or Argentina games over the last year.

1. Messi
2. Who cares? :p

According to C. Ronaldo though...

1. C. Ronaldo
2. C. Ronaldo
3. C. Ronaldo

UEFA agree which is why they laughably now consider Ronaldo to be a right-midfielder and Messi a forward. They simply could not have the golden child missing out on the team of the year twice in succession. His fans would not be able to cope.

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=875633

But isn't that the reason why him scoring 42 goals was so extraordinary is b/c he's a winger/midfielder and not a forward? So if Ronaldo was considered a forward, that would mean he would take Messi's place? I looked at the list, it is what it is...

42 goals was amazing because players don't usually score 42 goals
