I did so in order to spark debate and it was obviously a success. When discussing teams of that nature there is a lot of debate in regard to old versus modern, overall career versus peak years, etc. Ronaldo's inclusion involves a discussion of the latter. Normally I would counter with it being too short a period of time but Ronaldo has been one of the best wingers for a number of seasons before you even consider last season when he was given more freedom and had his exceptional season. That, I feel, requires attention and discussion. Particularly when people are refusing to acknowledge it.
We both know my stance on Zidane and it works perfectly into my argument for Ronaldo's inclusion. Ronaldo's peak is greater, his peak years longer and his importance to club/country far greater.
I think it's difficult to discuss it because we've many different points of view to build a final opinion. I'm not convinced really, I think it's a biased opinion yet but, whatever, the explanation sounds reasonable :).

It's not easy to come to a final opinion of how CRonaldo deserves to be included as an alltimer and even less so over Zidane.

For what exactly?, to believe your opinion it's biased, about why I put Zidane in an all-time team or why I wouldn't put there to Cristiano Ronaldo?

About how you judge a players eligibility for an all-time team. It's particularly important considering you complained about my inclusion of Ronaldo yet included Zidane yourself.

Neither Ronaldo or Zidane belong in the all-time XI.
Just being the best player in the world for 2 seasons is not enough, unless maybe you dominate a major international tournament which Ronaldo hasn't done.
Being 'pretty good' for 18 seasons also isn't enough to qualify.

i beg 2 differ....zidane belongs in the all-time XI.What he did in real madrid and france is notable and he was the best player during his play time.

"best player during his play time" is a bit vague. What years precisely was he the best player in the world? I must have missed it.

As did I. One thing I would like to add is that I don't see why one tournament should rank above an entire season. Not over one year and definitely not over multiple years.

For impressions and career, his continuance in the highest level and his impact in general in the football.
I think Cristiano Ronaldo is really far away to reach a place for an elite historic comparison, more because isn't enough time playing as "one of the best in the world", so his impact isn't too strong in a long time, maybe as Kaká, Messi or Ronaldinho for example, marvelous players who could be considered as the best in the world in their prime, but maybe don't have a solid entire career because don't have enough years playing yet (comparing with big historic figures), or, in case of Ronaldinho, is not known still which will be his last balance because it's possible he won't return to his old level and continue descending. Actually, in spite the Portuguese is a great player, my impression is he doesn't have the same impact at the same point of his prime career as Ronaldinho, maybe in some years he frame his possibility, but right now I think include him is from a biased, emotional or ignorant opinion, and as I read some of your answers in the forum and I know you've at least a good knowledge, I believe it's more about your tendency for Manchester United and certain radicalization of personal inclinations as players like Totti or Scholes.
I think my own inclusion of Zidane would enliven a debate that we've already had, obviously I think the distance with Cristiano Ronaldo is very long about the long of his career, his bigger impact in the football history and his continuance in the highest level... whatever, could be there or not, depends of the diverse opinions, but personally I think the presence of Zidane is far less debatible than the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, because in a short personal impressions I believe Zidane is over players as Platini or Zico, but Ronaldo not over the same Figo in the same position yet.

Are you saying that if you were without doubt the best player in the world over the course of an entire season but I play better for a period of a few weeks then I should be rated higher?

I thought so. The criteria you set clearly excludes Zidane. Anyone including him does so based on aesthetics and aesthetics alone. Aside from that I should point out that Ronaldo has been amongst the best in the world for a longer period of time than Zidane, had a higher peak and has been more influential for club/country. Ronaldo has been the best player in the world for the last two seasons and one of the best wingers before that. Some might call his inclusion premature but I have clearly explained my reasoning. I do find it strange that people continue to do their upmost to belittle him regardless of what he does. I've no idea why.
