Can anyone do a top 5 list for #10s or SS for the 07/08 season?
I tried, and I kept on struggling.
1) Ronaldo
2) Messi
3) Raul
4) Diego
5) Tevez

this is a pretty solid list and IMO more accurate than the other one (no offense Kaka)

You were right, this list is a lot harder than first thought. I forgot to mention Del Piero who was brilliant last season for Juve. I don't think Robinho merits inclusion because he only played well for half the year. Messi through Tevez is basically no seperation in my list, it's hard to say if del piero was better or worse than Raul

Messi did practically nothing this year. He was injured for most of it

Being serious here, why does Messi merit inclusion over Robinho?

Have you not been watching Barcelona games this year?

Messi was very good this season, he just missed 3 months due to injury, but when he came back he was back to being amazing.
Robinho's form at the start of the year was amazing, i thought if he kept it up he would be a shoe in for wpoty (this was before Ronaldo started smashing), after he suffered an injury he was very hot and cold and i think towards the end of the year he lost his starting role to Robben

I think his flashy performance against United has masked what has been a sub-par season for him.
After Messi's stunning start to the season, he never seemed to retain his form again. He was good in patches, and I don't think he did enough to seperate him from the likes of other disappointing players like Rooney, Fabregas and Robinho, imo.

Fair enough, i guess i can drop Messi from my list and add Del Piero or Aguero. I feel both deserve mention, and it's hard to say who deserves the spot more than the other.

You call it sub par, but in reality Messi had the most productive goal scoring season of his career. He was leading the CL in scoring before his injury. His performance against MU was the kind of thing Messi does in his sleep. He wasn't sharp for that match up. He wasn't even match fit. So I don't think people are basing their evaluation of his season on his just returned from injury performance against United. Except maybe United fans. There's no "top five" player whose team wouldn't trade him in a heartbeat for Messi.

The important thing to me about last season is that besides scoring Messi developed a whole new aspect to his game which was his passing. He was putting some almost Riquelmeesque through balls left and right for Barca and for Argentina. His passing improved so much in the course of a few months that it was very impressive. He's also started taking free kicks now which he never did before and was one of the main things lacking from his game.

Like I said, he had a stunning start to the season, and after that, his good performances only came in patches imo. I personally think Messi's performed quite a bit better in 06/07, and that's why I called this season sub-par for him.

Aguero may not be better now, but he arguably had a better season last year.

I thought so too, but the way he has played for us in the last few games Im not so sure anymore. The game against the Ivory Coast in the Olympics was very poor from him, in fact useless would be more accurate:(. Tevez will soon be competing for the spot again and Aguero may very well be a bencher and if Lavezzi keeps impressing the way he does with his hard work and Cavenaghi gets more chances to play and Higuain gets another chance Aguero better step it up. Not to mention Zarate or Di Maria:eek:.

Argentina have a crapload of talent, and it seems most of that talent is in similar positions. They have potentially 4 world class dms in cambiasso, mascherano, gago and banega and then a whole sleuth of support strikers/amcs. They seem to be lacking a proper #9
