You started harping on this chemistry stuff when you came to the Argentina forums and for all of us that pointed out they've had more good games together than bad you pointed out that it wasn't against better teams. If that is the case why did you use the most recent friendly against Mexico as a large part of your argument as to why Messi should be our enghanche?

Staying on topic, my top five players at the moment in no particular order are:
1. Casillas
2. Buffon
3. Ferdinand
4. Messi
5. C. Ronaldo

i asked this in the argentina forum and you still have not been able to answer it: Against what good team has argentina performed well with riquelme and messi in the lineup? they can beat up on the average and weak teams because argentina has too much talent but as soon as they play against a decent team (ie brazil without their main stars) they lose cohesion and their gameplay suffers...the reason i brought up mexico is because posters like you were bringing up chile to defend riquelme's play ...again, the system does not benefit messi's play when riquelme is on the pitch, its not bashing on riquelme, its just an observation

I've posted my top five in one of the above posts. Feel free to question or critique whichever ones you want. Also do you post for the sake of posting?

Why would I do a thing like that? :D

My top five...(no real order)

C. Ronaldo
Messi
Casillas (thought I'd add a goalkeeper)
Torres
Robinho (need a Brazilian)

I get on very well with many many posters outside

good for you, I'm really impressed
as far as being pompous, I'm afraid it is you that gets defensive and argumentative anytime someone criticizes your man-crush riquelme. get off of it and quit derailing the thread

Tomas is getting huge, he grew big time in just 3 weeks, thanks for asking Moishe.
I just want to add that it is a sad state of affairs in my opinion when a list of top five players must include two goalies.I personaly think that it says alot about the game today then.:(

let's jsut say then that you can't go wrong with either

As for what el viejo said, i disagree, it just so happens that we have 2 legendary goalkeepers playing in the same era, and what makes them stand out even more is that they are both waaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of the next goalkeepers on the list. For awhile Cech wasn't too bad but you saw him against Turkey. Sure every goalkeeper makes mistakes, but I can't remember Buffon/Casillas making the mistakes that made by the likes of Lehmann, Cech, Ricardo, that Turkish goalkeeper, Abbondanzieri, etc etc.

p.s. glad to hear Tomas is doing fine and is growing and healthy :)

I dont think though it is the first time we had two or more great keepers playing in the same era. If they take two spots only 3 are left for outfield players????

That's why you only go with one (Casillas). It's only a matter of time before Casillas stands alone IMO.

Ok I guess I could allow one spot;), in wich case Im still quite torn however, but I think I would lean more to Buffon.

well, we're also at a time where a lot of the top players have been playing poorly and the other great ones are up and coming young players who haven't had the consistently great seasons that Buffon/Carillas have delivered.

C Ronaldo is up there, same with probably Messi. Tevez could make a case this coming season if he improves due to having the summer off, Ronaldinho has fallen dramatically, Kaka had a disappointing season, Pirlo doesn't get as much credit because Milan had a bad season, same goes for Iniesta and others at Barcelona, Inter has some talent but they never show anything on the big stage. Ferdinand is up there, Nesta/Cannavaro are on the downside of their careers etc etc

EDIT: and Toni had an awful Euro and the other Bayern players (Ribery/Klose/Demichelis) have the fact that they not only didnt play the CL this past season but also couldn't win the UEFA

I did answer the question Phil. I mentioned Chile as they are good team which is steadily getting better thanks to Bielsa. Are they amongst the elite that we both agreed upon? Absolutely not but you did ask for a good team and they certainly aren't Faroe Islands or San Marino. Chile was brought up not as a defense for Riquelme, it was brought up as an example of Riquelme and Messi having a very good chemistry.

As for the Mexico thingy Phil I was the one that brought that up. I acknowledged that Messi looked excellent but I also made it very clear that using that particular Mexico side as a barometer was flawed. Mexico looked as bad as I've ever seen them look in years. I'm sure most Mexican posters would agree.

You never let it rest

only child probably.

Defensive? Not at all, I just don't agree with you.

Good to hear he's growing so fast. Maybe a Puma instead:D I'm not sure it's a sad state of affairs to have two keepers in a top five. As Bosterosoy said, it's more a testament to the fact that we get to witness two brilliant keepers playing at one time. It doesn't lower the efforts of many field players just emphasizes how good those two are.

Messi over Riquelme?

Riquelme hasn't played well for most of the last torneo in my opinion and in the qualifiers poor in one match and a bit better in the other. Messi has played more consistently at club level over the last term and he looks closer to dialed in than Roman.

When Riquelme gets back into top form which I believe he's still capable of then he's still one of the most influential and best players in the world. Top five or top ten? Maybe but then again a consensus top five player now can get into a funk and not even be top 20 in a short span. It's just the way the game is and how you view it.
