Any reasons why you left out messi and put 2-5 above him?

He doesn't need to be a top 5 defender to do his job well at Barca, that's all I'm getting at.
obviously not (though i think his play is declining), but he would need to be a top 5 defender in order to make the list of top 5 defenders ;)

The level of bitching on this thread is amazing. As for the idea that players like Christiano Ronaldo and Torres only have 6 quality games a year is laughable, if you were talking about Spain Barca would only have one or two quality games, Italy would only have about 4 as well, there is always differences in quality in leagues, but in England and Italy sort of the lower teams are MUCH better than people give them credit, especially teams such as Everton, Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham etc who have all had long runs in the UEFA cup recently. There is no super league that is simply made up of amazing teams, the cream always rise to the top, Spain is the most obvious! Italy is mainly Roma Inter AC and Juventus, so I dont get the arguments. Countries such as Argentina's leagues simply arn't the same quality but thats a different point.
Where did you get that from? I said they only get around 6 games against the very best opposition. Teso's argument for players in South America not being rated as world-class is that they should face the opposition from the very best before receiving such a rating. And that's why I'm using the same kind of reasoning to explain why the clutch games are important. And believe me, I know the premiership midtable teams are pretty good, and I didn't want to get into this, but so are the top 13 brazilian teams (all of them can win the national title every single year): Sao Paulo, Santos, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Botafogo, Fluminense, Vasco, Cruzeiro, Atlético, Internacional, Grêmio, Atlético Paranaense. Just take the international results from these teams and you'll see they would fare well in european leagues, or in the UEFA Cup. I mean, it wasn't ages ago that we saw Sao Paulo beating Liverpool in a final, Internacional beating Barcelona in a final, Internacional beating Inter in a pre-season tournament. And I don't want to hear the "europeans don't care" crap, they play with the full team and there's not a single football player that enters a pitch not wanting to win a game. If a player can be rated as the best in the world for having good performances against the premiership mid-table teams, why can't a player from Brazil be rated world-class for playing the best brazilian teams every week?

The German league is not as high quality as the top three leagues in Europe, Bayern are their only top consistent team really as Dortmund have faided, Toni is a good player. The difference between him and Torres is that Torres has far less experience, has come from a COMPLETELY different league and yet has managed to dazzle everyone in only one year, he is a complete forward, sets up goals, scores goals, doing brilliant things all the time. To claim that he is not as good as Toni is a bit crazy really. I realise Toni has managed to succeed in Germany but well done him, imagine Drogba going to Lyon this summer, he would probably score countless goals as well.
I personally think that outside of the top 4, the teams in Italy are much better than those in England

Beckham? He still has some obvious qualities, but he's definitely playing nowhere near a top five rating in the Americas. As much as it pains me, I'd pick Veron as a more complete player these days. Aside from nationality why would you chose Temo as well? He's not even having as good a season as Barros-Schelotto another player I would not put near a top five?

Because, in my opinion, although he's doing well the things in Chicago Fire, his level is far from other footballers in stronger competences and more regularity as Verón, Cabañas, Villanueva, Palacio, Vera and many more. Actually, I don't think is too clear is Blanco is the best player of his team considering first Mapp and the Polish Frankowski.
I know he's a good player. but as Beckham and Bravo, I think there are too many players that could be considering before them in a better level.

Haha, very few players in the world have his kind of vision for passing, in terms of assists and passing and long balls he is still incredible. Also lets not forget that he has managed to adjust and succeed at many different types of football such as England, Spain and MLS which are all very different. Players like Veron that someone mentioned is good in Argentina but was completely useless in England and people still laugh here at how crap he is. Beckham is 33, he might not be the best at most things anymore, but his passing and thought is still far better than many players in the Americas. Thats not to say we want him back though, if Americans want to pay him £5 million a year or whatever he's getting nice one golden balls I say!

Well, fair enough if thats what you believe, but I think that Tottenham, Newcastle, Villa, Everton and Manchester City will become far bigger teams than the Italian "second quality" teams soon with the amount of money they currently have to burn. Look at Tottenham, they've just bought Modric, Barca and Arsenal and Liverpool were all desperate to sign him! Palermo, Fiorentina, Udinese, Lazio (of old) are sort of around that level but not really in my opinion, I believe that they will soon be left behind, especially with the amount of premier league clubs currently owned by billionaires.

I'm not one to defend Veron as he is one of the few Bosteros I never liked but how can you discount his time in Italy? Granted he was more or less shit for ManU and Chelsea, he did show up in the Champions League early stages for the Red Devils. Hell I'm pretty sure even Teso defended him in how he was used by Sir Alex. At Chelsea he did suck and he is still a piece of ungrateful shit.

Beckham is starting to play well for the Galaxy, but he's not playing at Veron's level right now. Veron didn't fit Chelsea's system, but he proved his worth in Italy's Serie A, and is still playing well. Funny, you talk about vision in passing, in terms of assists and long balls, and all that describes Veron's game to a T.
And yeah, Veron is an ass and has always been an ass. But he can still play.

I think whether it's him, Guille or Beckham, it's hard to rank players from MLS, until MLS clubs start proving their league's worth by being more competitive internationally.
No doubt these players among others are helping the league improve, but it's not there yet.

Well I'm sure I'm wrong but I will never be able to think of Veron as a good player. I can remember watching him for Man U and Chelsea (obviously I got to watch him more for them I've not watched him playing for many other places) but all I can remember is how he just looked out of his depth, the game was too fast for him, he put in NO effort, I'm not surprised Ferguson treated him like sh*t, he WAS a piece of sh*t! Beckham, I guess he will always be in British peoples hearts because he has always played his little heart out whether the team is winning, losing etc. Plus he has a habit of getting teams out of trouble or winning things. Thats why we like him. Kind of an anti-Veron.
Plus to be fair Veron has much better team mates, apart from Donavan, Beckham doesn't really have many players he can rely on or play off.
