Well, he has scored 18 goals this season already, the same number of goals he scored last season. Dunno about the assists tho. He isn't playing as badly as people is making him out to be, but I agree he's not the #1 this season.
18 goals but he hasnt helped his team win games. c.ronaldo does not only scores but he also wins games for man utd.

What has Kaka done this season to be worthy of the #1 spot. AC Milan were knocked out in the Round of 16 and they might not even qualify for next season's Champions' League.
You're looking at stats and not players, if Kaka played for Levante or Birmingham and they still weren't doing well you couldn't say that he necessarily isn't still great. He's largely responsible for them being as high as Milan are! Their strikers are not scoring enough, their defence is not as good as usual and they've had a goalkeeping problem all year along with the drastic ageing of the team that has been seen. They should be closer to relegation than knocking on the door of Champions League, history means nothing, but he has still played well this year, I've watched A.C. quite a bit on Gazzeta Italiano and he's still playing wonderfully, as is Pato.

ferdinand is good but many players are ahead of him
Like who? Is this just because he's a defender? The problem is that defenders need to be boring and do their job unlike strikers who need to be exciting. Ferdinand is probably the most consistent defender in the premiership, and is a great reason that Man U may well win the title due to great defence. Any footballer who keeps playing with blood pouring out of their foot is impressive. I really can't imagine who is better than Ferdinand. He is also the most expensive defender in the world, and I can't imagine that changing if they were price checked.

My top 5 players currently active (and not well past their prime, otherwise Maldini would be eligible):
1st Place is really all for Kaka and Messi, I don't know which of the two is better.
Then come, in no particular order: Fabregas, C.Ronaldo and Pirlo.
Honourable mentions to Rooney, Gerrard, Torres, Benzema (who in a few years will be an absolute killer), Sergio Ramos, Toni and Iniesta.
I don't rate C.Ronaldo as highly as Kaka, Messi, Pirlo or Fabregas because although his skills are good and his speed is amazing, I think he lacks character. He always disappears when Man U isn't playing well, whereas IMO a great player is the guy who carries the team on his shoulders in hard times. See Kaka in the CL last year, or Rooney for instance.
Ronaldo has never really convinced me in a major match. He's still fantastic, but like Ibrahimovic, he lacks the mentality to be a true lasting great.

As much as I love Messi (as a fan :D), C. Ronaldo has a much better claim to the #1 spot. We'll see who shows up on Tuesday

I'm agree, it isn't necessary a new thread... but why it's necessary when the thread have more than 500 posts ?
He doesn't need to because he has clearly been the best player this season and last.
Wasn't clear the last European season, but this I think definitely he's without contendors.

It's just a more appropriate number to end at. Most mods end threads at 500 anyways.

Cristiano Ronaldo ISN'T some god-like player who no other player on this planet can compare to. I think you're overrating him when you say he is a runaway best player on the planet without contenders.

Based on form and stats he is by far the best this year. the problem with arguing that messi, aguero etc etc is better is that your basing it on potential. Sure kaka on his good day can be just as good as c ronaldo, as can messi, aguero, and others but c ronaldo consistently has done it this season while others haven't

I know, but I'm plotted why when surpass the 500 posts the need arises when a thread can continue to the 1000 or more posts.

Exactly as bosterosoy explains; I think you're misinterpreting the comment, and ironically, overrating the really meaning to recognize the high level of Cristiano Ronaldo over his probable contenders this season.
Isn't necessary to consider to Ronaldo as a god-like player to affirm this as a personal opinion.

Cristiano Ronaldo has certainly been the best player of this season, but Messi is clearly the better player.

Both underperformed in the CL semi-finals compared to how they were hyped.

Server issues.
I disagree and have dealt it with on numerous occasions. No matter now though.

Pity all of his contenders have failed to show up over the last two seasons...

Kaka was the best last season, he proved it in the CL semi-finals.

True, but they both had some of the worlds best defenders and defensive mids keying on them. Still, I agree it was dissapointing. I expected both Ronaldo and Messi to do more.
At least Messi has a bit of an excuse, he's just getting back in football shape.

Not God-like, and certainly not Maradona-like, but he scored more goals than all the forwards in the top leagues (I am not counting Huntelaar in this), and he's been a key player for a team that is in position to win both the EPL and champions league, so it's hard to argue that he's not clearly the dominant player this season.
