Interesting article about the progression of the men's game coupled with the worsening of women in the US due to development, and the MLS Academies tie in. Personally, I think the rest of the world is just catching up to our women, and our men are just catching up to the rest of the world.

He said that thanks to good leadership, Major League Soccer is “on the right track.” Recently, MLS mandated that all clubs make their academies free of charge.

they did?

“the worst thing that ever happened” was that the United States made the uncreative possession style of England’s play their standard. If the United States was a Portuguese speaking country, he added, it would be a world soccer power thanks to Brazilian influence.

i'd love to see us implement development focusing on emulating the brazillian game rather then englands.

One year, my kid played club for a Brazilian coach, then along with several club teammates did ODP under an English-style disciple.

With one exception -- a fully grown 13 year old who was also good on the ball, and thus impossible to dislike -- the players whom the first coach favored, the second guy didn't, and vice versa.

It was like playing a different sport.
