realistically... DC until he's 17, then AJAX (anybody who doesnt want him to spend a few years at the ArenA doesnt really want the best possible player for the USMNT), then bayern, then manU, milan or barcelona

You're all wrong.
Freddy will create his own club that will play in every league, in every match, and win every trophy.
And then he'll found his own country, be the national team, and win 12 consecutive World Cups.
After which, he will become King of Earth and live out his life in Hawaii, playing golf with Mike Ditka and Jesus everyday at 8 AM.

Ajax now,
Then somewhere in Spain.
He should be in a league that values creativity up front. That immediately lets out England and Germany.
Spain, probably Barcelona, who have a great record of taking young talent on to highlight them so the really big clubs can buy them.

He should reject any overtures from MLS unless they change their tune significantly over the next two years or so. And he should let the fans know why. MLS isn't cutting the mustard quality-wise, and he isn't going to retard his career by wasting time playing in it.
Something like this could mortally wound MLS in the public eye, but what a slap in their arrogant faces it would be. I'm speaking of Anschutz and Hunt, the two men who think they're the only ones in America that know how to run a league. He should force them to cough up millions for his services. As a result, this abhorrent "salary cap" crap would go down the toilet.
Freddy has it in his power. I hope he uses it ruthlessly.
For those who childishly believe Freddy should be a nice kid "for the good of the sport in America" and dance to MLS's music, forget it. Playing hardball with these clowns is what will ultimately be "for the good of the sport in America." (Unless you think Freddy owes it to you to prance around for your entertainment on Soccer Saturdays while getting paid peanuts.)

I hardly think a kid at fourteen - I don't care what he's accomplished - is just thinking in his mind "I have to screw over rich old men just because I can."

Well, no, but the agent his family has hired has figured out a plan to make Freddy as much money as humanly possible before he hits 35 and retires. Screwing old men is just a bonus. (btw, anyone know if he is catholic? ;)).

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing him play for Ajax. Best youth system in the world. But isn't it sad that despite soccer being played in this country on an organized level for about 100 years that a good number of the new stars(Adu, that guy that Arsenal wants. Most of them are of dual nationality) and older players are from 1st or 2nd generation families. And we don't even have colonies like the European countries.(Well, the Philippines and Puerto Rico aren't giving us soccer players) I mean that's a great irony with England. Their colonies gave them mostly cricket players. It's a class thing. I mean a French team without Zidane, Vieira et al wouldn't be as good. But still France is a bad example. Shaky history there. Rugby has often been as popular if not more so. Before Platini, their best team was the one in the 50s with Fontaine(Moroccan) and Kopa(Pole). But we have had a long history in this country for soccer. Yet, Adu comes over with his family for economic reasons and we take him in. No problem. But he wasn't born here. I don't know. Two sides to my family. One been here from about the 1790s and the other since 1916. I guess we're old. More people from the last couple of generations into this country. But Adu doesn't play like the rest of the Americans. Maybe that's why he is such a "find". Go ahead. Call me anti-immigrant. I'm not. I'm just moaning the state of soccer in this country for the last 60 years. Do we know of any other Americans with ball skills like Adu? I didn't think so. There's a reason for that. Conditioning v Ball skills. The Great American battle. The 1920s were the most successful era for American soccer before the last 15 years. 1950 was a blimp. No league to speak of. But the 20s had a fairly successful league and it lead to the solid team of the first World Cup. But they also had a good number of 1st or 2nd generation players. But the game was young then in this country.

OK, I don't know much about Freddie Adu, but I know that no 14 year old is certain to become a world class footballer. But lets assume that he does become a great striker. Lets assume that he impresses a club like Real Madrid enough, and they want to sign him, straight from MLS. Most players that aren't already a star will probably start on their second team, where too many good players waste away. It requires luck, just as much as skill, to break through on the first team in such a big club. Rivaldo was one of the core players on the team that won WC'02, and he still couldn't break through on AC Milans first team, and his contract was recently cancelled. I agree, I think it would be best to sign a dutch top club, PSV or Ajax, but only if he is as good as certain to start on the first team. If the dutch clubs don't need him on the first team, it might be necesary to start in another mid level club in one of the big leagues, or a top club in one of the smaller leagues (Porto?). Talent won't make it without luck. Oh, and if he's able to, he should play for a MLS team first, both because he probably can't sign untill he's older, but mostly because most clubs want to buy and use someone who has already proven himself in a profesional league rather than a good talent. Ever heard about Mads Timm? No? He signed with Manchester United when he was 15 or so, as their first foreign talent at that age. So far he's only played around 15 minutes or so in a profesional top game, and he's 19 (I think) now.
So, best of luck to Adu. I truly hope he has the luck and talent, and takes the right road to become a superstar, as the world of football can never have too many of those special players that make the game magical.
