So now that there is a great chance that the Chivas (Goats) will be in MLS what does everyone think the team colors and uni's should be?

Should San Diego go with the same colors as their soon to be cousins, Guadalajara, and stick with the red and white verticle stripes with blue shorts and socks?

Or, should they goe for something more different that will not be so similar to Guadalajara?

I say the new San Diego Club keeps the same colors, but instead goes to red and white horizontol hoops (similar to Celtic) with blue shorts and socks.

I think it would be better if they wore the same colors, but different uniforms. Only because I never want to see red and white vertical stripes in MLS. Reminds me of the officials in the old AFL. And they should have their own name. Chivas would be too remote for fans who don't speak Spanish and "Goats" has a negative connotation in American sports.

I love the new chivas uniforms! I hope they do something along those lines. Not the same, but similar. Also, keep the Chivas name. The Padres don't seem to be having to much trouble with spanish words. And, if we are lucky, Vergara will do what he did in mexico and Give them a jersey with no Ads.

Maybe. But baseball is America's Pastime. Soccer on the other hand needs to choose its battles. As an example, when Montreal was awarded a franchise in the APSL, they needed a name that appealed to both English and French Canadians. Impact, while I don't really like it, is a cognate. It has the same meaning in both languages. I took Spanish for five years and I didn't know what Chivas meant until I saw that little cartoon at MLSnet.com. If you suggested a Spanish name that Americans would easily understand, like Desperados, Diablos, or for that matter Padres, that would be the smart play.

Do we even know for sure that Chivas USA is going to be in San Diego?

Yes we do! Now MLS and the ownership just need to admit to that fact, that's all.

True. I just think that Chivas could work, given a little time, people might like it's eccentricity.

Also, here's a pic of the new Chivas jersey in mexico. Ad free!

How about Chivas United/ Chivas Unidos?

It's simple, it leverages the brand, it works in english and spanish, it connotes unity between USA/Mexico, and it plays off the idea that this is a version of the team in the Estados Unidos.

without even the symbol of who made the jersey it looks like one of those knock-offs you buy in a back alley, 2 for $20.00...

but they are sharp.

I don't know what you are talking about. The photo was taken at the MLS all-star game.

I really like the Chivas uniforms. It's amazing how much better soccer shirts look without ads on them, and it's a big contrast to the typical Mexican jersey which has so many ads you think the players also drive for NASCAR.

When I saw the All Star game, I thought Chivas removed the sponsor from their shirts because it was Coca-Cola, while MLS is sponsored by Pepsi. I'm glad to see they won't have a sponsor on the front for the whole season.

I also like the name Chivas. Call it San Diego Chivas, we Americans will get used to it.

No we won't. San Diego Chivas??? C'mon, that's trash.

"Hey amigo, did you catch the Chivas match yesterday?"

"Um...which one? The MLS or the trash team south of the border? Doesn't matter anyway. I'm a Rhino fan."

So the name San Diego Padres isn't trash?

Translation : San Diego Parents or Fathers

I don't think Chivas is that bad.

I like Chivas de San Diego as a name, personally, but I'm what they call a "Eurosnob" (or a rest-of-the-worldophile, since Mexico isn't in Europe last I checked). I like the traditional sound of club names in other countries.

I do agree with the idea proposed upthread that the Chivas (Mexico) jerseys look sort of like cheap knockoffs. When it boils down to it, a sponsor gives a soccer shirt identity, IMHO. But I do agree that some Mexican jerseys go overboard. And in Sweden, different players might have different sponsors, which I don't usually care for.

I would go with the chivas kits, but with a single sponsor on the front. However, this clashes with MLS's aesthetic. The likely scenario, methinks, is the red/white stripes, but with "CHIVAS" in big letters on the front.
