Marek Kozminski, the former Polish international defender, has bought KS Górnik Zabrze after being at the Ekstraklasa club just six months.
Return from Italy
The 32-year-old left-back, who returned to Poland in February after eleven years abroad in Italy and Greece, struck the deal with his father, Zbigniew, who is the club's president. Kozminski, who is still a first-team regular, now owns 52 per cent of the club.
Contacts
It is his contacts within the game which were pivotal in the sale. Górnik have already procured two strikers, the 21-year-old Serbian Vladimir Sladojevic loaned from Brescia Calcio, one of Kozminski's former clubs, and 19-year-old Bulgarian Dmitar Makriev, loaned from Internazionale FC.
World Cup player
Kozminski also played for Udinese Calcio and Ancona Calcio in Italy and for FC PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece and appeared in Poland's three games at last summer's FIFA World Cup. Górnik, meanwhile, are Poland's only European competition finalist: in 1970, they lost the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final to Manchester City, 2-1.
