I see there is a website http://www.gatewaycitysupportersclub.org/ but I have not really heard anything about the club lately. Does anyone know more?

We are still here.

There will be a bigger push in the near future.

With the end of the local soccer season it has been tougher to have events. Also there haven't been any city council meetings to go to. We'll have some stuff in the near future.

The group is still working on getting a team to St. Louis, but we've also expanded to other important areas.

Literacy programs, preserving our beloved covered bridges, world domination...

Oh, that must be a typo.

(note to self: crewe knows too much) ;)

I meant to point this (http://mlsrumors.blogspot.com/2008/01/expansion-miami-moves-closer-to-being.html) out to y'all:

New York City like Philadelphia is a much coveted market which they had plans to be in from the start. They have a well monied owner/investor Fred Wilpon, owner of the NY Mets looking to possibly build a stadium on land he owns in Queens, and like Philadelphia's "Sons Of Ben", New York City has, "The Borough Boys", a grassroots group of passionate soccer supporters making noise to get a 2nd NY club in the league.

So far as we know, St Louis has no similar, comparable group. In the post Toronto FC world that as well as the lack of an urban, downtown stadium plan may just hurt their chances.

(emphasis is mine)

So that post basically tells us that we need to get the word out and become more vocal.

And that MLSrumors is just as worthless as ever.

Is the plan to rename the group when we get wind of a team name, or is GCSC the name? It sounds kind of corporate.

on the main page of the website there's already a poll where you can choose among some nicknames for the group ...
I'm sure for you guys each of these nicks has an historical or cultural meaning/background ... ;)

Another blogger doesn't know about you (http://mysoccerblog.blogspot.com/):

If you are a fan in the St. Louis area, maybe you should follow the Sons of Ben model and get a supporters group together now.

Does GCSC know how many people are interested in joining, are there already members? On http://www.stlsoccer.net/ their supporters group was around 50 the last time I checked.

I's say we have 20 or so that have actually made it out somewhere and met each other. I think most of those guys would consider themselves members. Have the .net guys had any events? If I knew who they were I might be able to tell you if they came to the city council meetings.

No doubt GCSC have been active, my main question was the number of members. 20 people making it to an event is great. I want to participate more in the future, now knowing how important it is.

yeah the Sons of Ben are the blueprint. They helped us out. If you guys need any advice, you can ask them or us. But get that name out ..as much as possible

Making more noise would help St.L solidify its reputation as being Soccer Town, USA.
