View Full Version : Finding Pickup Games

Being a activated reservist on medical hold and now stationed in Groton, Conneticut in what seems to be the Black Hole of excitment, I happened upon some beautiful fields where there are people playing Soccer everyday. The age range is wide, from 11 yr olds and up but there is no lack of talent, even from the kids.
There should be some way to find out where pick up games are played - or fields that are designed for it so that players can come down and get some extra training, stay in shape, or just play the game that we all love.
This might sound like it is logical and that it is easy to find these fields but that is not always the case especially when you do not live in the area. I am going to post this message on other boards as well as contact the team I support, the Metro Stars, and even smaller organizations such as Long Island Junior etc.
Does anyone know if there is something already that I am proposing and or have any other ideas in this regard?

well im organizing a pick up game in new haven with a bunch of my friends. it really istn involoving a whole lot of skill, most of them are just fans, i think i maybe the only one who has actually played and is atleast decent. other than that i hear there are pick up games at other fields in new haven that get kinda crazy competitive.

Without a doubt the skill level and compitition level varies from place to place. The main thing, regardless of your skill level, is that you are out there playing. No matter what you can improve your skill on some level and stay in shape.
Besides it is better to play than not to play.
The thing still comes down to finding a field to play on.

well, if you dont mind playing with a bunch of punk kids with low skill level, with the exception of a few of us - sunday august 10th were playing a pick up game at the yale fields off of route 34 and the boulevard in new haven, ct at 1PM. you are more then welcome to come and bring anyone who would like to play as well. i know its not much, and im not sure about any other pick up game info in CT, if i hear anything ill let you know. but like i said i think myself and maybe one other person actually has real soccer experience so its really just for fun and to play. if your interested at all, let me know and ill get you some better directions

I live just up the road from you and I haven't been able to find a pick up game in two years! Actually there is a team in Waterford who is pretty cool about letting people practice with them. If I hear back from the guy I know with the team I'll let you know.

I am actually living in the same area (East Lyme area) for a few months and would like to practice/play a pickup game if you are interested...
Anyone feel free to PM if you want to set up a game/kickaround session ...

I'll be at Ft. Meade for AIT from mid-May till August or September. I don't have any clue how far that is from Baltimore or Annapolis (but Maryland is not a large state), but I will possibly drive the distance just to find some games.
I'm hoping the base will have a team or league I can play in though. But I'm always up for kicking it around.

I play in a DC league called WISL because it has the best competition around. You can always find pick-up games at the Mall in DC on Saturdays and Tues / Thurs nights. One idea is to post on DC united boards when you are thinking of going to the Mall to verify times and stuff. Also, closer to you is the soccer dome, indoor place that has organized pick-up several times a week.

Amo - you might want to look into the Shoreline soccer league:

There are varying levels of competitiveness, but you may find something you're looking for.
