On bigsoccer, it's not fashionable to rate ZZ. If you want to know why, pm Teso.Teso rates him above 300th.
I rate ZZ maybe among 55-66th.:p

Right now, Wilson Palacios (just a little bias)
Kubala, outside of Barcelona circles not well mentioned.

Lisandro Lopez is very underrated in my eyes. Hell he may be the answer for the argentina NT since all these big names are stinking up the place.

I'm still waiting.
Considering some of the shite I have read on these boards I think we need to add Cristiano Ronaldo.

They need riquelme more than any one else. Though i do agree LL is underrated.

Joe Cole. Eventhough he has been out a while, people still underrate him as an integral part of his squads, especially for england's NT.

Alltime:
Sándor Kocsis
Seems to be overshadowed byPuskás and therefore often forgotten.
Apparently he even was the best Hungarian in 1954 scoring 11 goals (only Fontaine topped that)
He was not a better player thanPuskás overall, but his WC appearance is definatly noteworthy - Top 50 alltime player
Recent:
Raúl González
Real all-time top scorer, CL top scorer, spanish NT top scorer and top 10 forward for many, many years.
Still very soild.
Lilian Thuram
He was the man for France in 1998. A lot of people forget that.
I agree with Kocsis. Though I'm not sure about Thuram and Raul. With Thuram, many people would have had him in their "dream team" when he was still playing and he is widely recognised as one of the best CBs of our time, so I dont think he is underrated. But concerning WC 98, ZZ unfairly took the limelight from him along side Blanc and Desailly.
Concerning Raul, he was one of the hottest strikers in the world whom everyone knew before lost fame due to his post 2003 form and being dropped eventually by Aragones. So he recieved less ratings and fame after his decline, which is understandable.
the funny thins about kocsis is that everyone says puskas is a forgotten great.
if that's the case, kocsis and the rest of the magyars aren't just forgotten, but it seems like they never existed.
some make it seem like it was puskas + 10

In fairness on these boards Hungary are very highly rated.
I think that Kocsis, Boszik, Czibor, Grosics and Hidegkuti all are very highly rated here. I'm pretty sure that all were taken as part of the all-time draft.

among a group of posters, yes.
but if you look at the amount of times puskas that has been called a "forgotten great" or "underrated" compared to the rest of the magyars, he wins easily.

Consistency, as always, is his problem particularly in comparison to his peers.

Very true.
the ones who say it was Puskas + 10 only say it to hide their ignorance, and name him as a great player due to tokenism because they cannot name any other hungarian...

True if you're talking club form but if you considering his form for his NT he was pretty much underrated particularly in pre and during WC06. He was the only player capable of sparking the team and was their only creative source. In that sense he was more consistent than Gerrard, Lampard, Becks and co then. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does under ancelloti and capello.

His problem for England was his tendency to drift centrally which created a logjam as you had Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard, at a minimum, all trying to operate in the same area of the pitch. Capello has sorted the latter trio out in his system but it remains to be seen whether he can do the same with Cole or if he will be one player too many for the system to cope. England has thrived with a direct option sticking to the right wing (Walcott/Lennon) and with Rooney and Gerrard creating a partnership of sorts. Is it something that needs to be changed or would Cole be better utilised as a game changer from the bench?

he did drift into the middle but that wasnt why gerard lampard and co were underperforming. their form was off due to incorrect positioning especially when gerard was asked to play a holding mid and that was the time where joe cole was their ownly creative force. whether he would fit with the current starting 11 is a good question because you dont want that crowding effect from before, but then again it might be more beneficial to stick with only gerrard (instead of both lamps and ger) and use cole out on the wide.
As for club, two seasons ago he was the teams driving force and did very well to supply drogba. i believe he got the fans award for player of the year, yet still many posters on here did not think he was such an integral part of the squad.

But I'm not quite sure what you expect.
Puskas is a forgotten great among some, because this guy is a genuine contender for the greatest player of all time, and yet he is often not mentioned.
But he has the advantage of footage. There is very little footage of Boszik or Hidegkuti or Kocsis.
But I'm all for more recognition for these guys.

Actually, I think Raúl is one of the most overrated players, a basic example why numbers aren't necessarily a reliable source.

At this point, if he cant play the role that Walcott and Lennon have been playing, I expect him to take a lot of time to get his starting position back.
I do agree, Joe Cole is underrated. He works hard on both sides of the ball, something he improved on. He scores goals, and provides unpredictability that few England players outside of Rooney, Gerrard and sometimes Lampard provide.
Underrated player was mentioned earlier, Wilson Palacious. He is a monster. I wonder how good the rest of his brothers are.

Not nearly as good. One is a striker who is being the top goalscorer in the Honduran league, but he is not nearly ready to play in the EPL.
