I haven't always thought so but lately a player who's struck me as being underrated both in terms of skill and influence is Carlos Marchena. He's been solid every time I've caught Valencia this season, and despite what the 3-3 scoreline might imply, he was stellar against Villarreal.

And by people who are foolish enough to think computer games rating are accurate

Are you being sarcastic? I was obviously telling a joke, but you have to admitt there are people out there who count on computer games rating.

Michael Laudrup, at least judging by the replies in some of the latest "Greatest Modern Player" threads.

kumarss, was it you that disagreed when I kept claiming Lassana Diarra as underrated (for the past two years)? If it was, sorry to rub it in, be he is finally showing his worth at Real Madrid. ;)

Players like Diarra will always be underrated though.

I'll admit his lackluster spell at Chelsea and his rotten attitude colored my perception. I thought his delusions about his own worth and readiness to jump the gun would be an impediment to his development.

For now, my friend, it seems I stand corrected - but there's still plenty of time for him to screw up :p

Kerlon is extremely overrated. Skilful? Yes. Anything else? Not really. Will have a decent career, but never a great one.

Del Piero is universally known as a legend and a brilliant, brilliant player. He can't be underrated.

Not really, at least in South America I think the most doesn't consider Del Piero as a legend, just like a great player of his generation like Totti, Shearer or Bergkamp.

Actually, I think in this continent many people watch a lot of European football in spite they don't consider Del Piero as a legend.

.wtf, rafa marquez has been the best mexican player for some years now but people dont call him the next maradona or the best soccer player...that comment was so dumb dude because us mexicans dont be saying marquez is the best in the world because we (well me) use facts to make statements and CR7 has the facts to be called the best player right now and for the next five-ten years.

but wrong thread...
