Nah, he is rated about right. Ages ago people were saying he was the most exiting player in the premier league. Keegan even said that he was the best. Chelsea bought him for loads of money and he promptly proved that he was not as good as we all though. We have toned down our perceptions of him, to a good, but not great player. That is about right.
Here's one. Phil Jagielka. Better than John Terry.
no doubt SWP used to be overrated but people now seem to underrate his abilities, as he is rarely discussed as one of the better players in the league.

Despite his promising start he is not the best attacking player nor midfielder for Man City this season. He needs to prove himself over a longer period of time. He played well in spurts for Chelsea as well and whether this is another spurt of him finally returning to his pre-Chelsea form remains to be seen. People will adjust their views at the end of the season based on what he does.

I think you're getting carried away there! He'd start.
It's not like it's an accomplishment :D

He is also behind Ireland.

I disagree, they both have been playing really well, but swp is the better talent, ireland has been in incredible form but overall i would rate him slightly behind swp.

When rating players some weighting needs to be given to current form. In the case of Wright-Phillips more than most because he does not have anything to fall back on over recent years.

Silva and Giuly are great players but what have they done lately to deserve mention? I haven't seen Silva play since the EC.

Silva in general gets overlooked as one of la liga's best players, and giuly has been in good form and also doesnt get the recognition he deserves.

David Silva, Nasri, Giuly
Sorry, but Nasri is overrated for me. Can't beat player, can't do short and clever passes, nothing redeeming physically, poor work rate/passion/desire and a lack of intelligence on the pitch.
(Mind you, this is only taking into account his form for Arsenal, never saw him at Marseiile).

That is exactly why. He is playing out of position going along the lines of Wenger's agenda of turning central attacking mids into wide midfielders. He has not been able to show his true potential at Arsenal, which is a shame because he is extremely talented with good vision.

Silva has been injured a lot, but try to catch Valencia's game today with Silva.

Here's a name for discussion: Kakha Kaladze.
For the last couple of years, Nesta has been constantly injured and Maldini is being played for old time's sake. And Milan have hardly had a reliable keeper for a good while now. Somebody's running the show, keeping Milan from becoming a defensive joke. It's this guy.

I don't think so. The guy is good for two big mistakes a game. I think playing three holding midfielders has generally done the trick for them

That, along with his 68 goals in 62 international games are just about the most amazing stats I have ever heard of in football. Michael Owen has 40 goals in 85ish England games and people still notify his 'excellent strike rate'. I am just heading off to add his name to the most 'underrated player' list below this thread.
Completing my promise from the Gerd Muller thread.

Completing my promise from the Gerd Muller thread.
The thing is that Muller is almost universally regarded at among the top 5 strikers of all time anyway.
So I'm not sure who underates him anyway.

He is forgotten by a lot of people and underrated by many, namely, by people who make computer games. He's wank on Pro Evo.
