you are the last word on football
Care to dispute the post?
Ridiculous statement. Iniesta has been one of if not the best centermids in la liga. It would help if you watched the players before rating them.
He is not a top 10 central midfielder. He is not even the best on his own team. I never said that was not a good player simply that there are better around. He would be somewhere between 11-20. Apply that last sentence to yourself.

Foolish logic. He doesn't need to be the best player on his team to be a top 10 central midfielder in the world, which he is. Iniesta has players like Messi, Eto'o, Henry, and Xavi on his team which makes it extremely difficult to be the stand-out best player. I'm becoming curious as to which 10 central-mids you think are better than Iniesta...

You might claim 'foolish logic' but had you followed the discussion you would have realised my post was in direct response to the claim that Iniesta was perhaps the best central midfielder in La Liga.
The following are 10 central midfielders I would select ahead of him (off the top of my head)...
Premiership: Arteta, Ballack, Essien, Fabregas, Gerrard, Mascherano, Scholes
Three more: Aquilani, De Rossi, Xavi
Let's be realistic now. Claiming Iniesta is somewhere between the top 11-20 central midfielders in the world is hardly a crime.

Arteta, Aquilani ahead of Iniesta? Come on. Both good playes but not at Iniesta's level. Especially Aquilani who you can't really say has performed better for Roma or Italy than Iniesta has for Barcelona and Spain.
Fabregas is also very debatable especially comparing both of their form right now and Scholes is not what he used to be.

How many Iniesta games have you watched? He has outperformed Cesc for both club and country (except in Euros where they were even) and Arteta whom I rate very highly is not near his class. Not Aquilani nor Scholes have been as consistent. Once again, ill repeat, watch the players before you rate them.

Iniesta is a good two-way central midfielder but given the choice I would have Aquilani (more composed, better passer and underrated), Arteta (better in possession but weaker defensively and vastly underrated), Fabregas (better in possession) and Scholes (far better in possession but weak in the tackle). You need to note that form does not automatically equate to talent. Fabregas might have had a slow start but he was injured and Arsenal have a serious weakness in central midfield with the loss of Flamini). I doubt we will see Fabregas hit top form until the weakness is addressed. Scholes is still Scholes. A bit slower but put him in the right system (which we did not have against Liverpool/Chelsea) and he is still one of the very best around.

A fair few and a simple search of BS will find my comments in relation to him. The problem is we are supposed to be discussing underrated players and I do not believe that Iniesta belongs in that group anymore. You would have a point if we were discussing this at the start of last season or the season before that but not now. As good as he is I do not rate him in the top 10. I hardly think that is a crime when you consider the alternatives. Object to my initial choice of Aquiliani (who does merit discussion in this thread) and I will simply slide a player like Cambiasso in. I will repeat that Iniesta is a good player but his versatility hurts him because he has not mastered any particular position. By mastered I do not even mean being proficient but also consistent performances in direct relation to his peers. It hurts his standing. I'm not saying he will never be a top 10 player just that he does merit a place there at present.

That's a fair assesment since most people arent aware of his subtle first class touch on the ball nor his influence on a game, but if you have watched him enough which you claim you have, how can you come to the conclusion that cesc, arteta, and scholes are better in possession? Besides a few games in euros where he was sloppy at times, when has he been worse than them in possession? (and i have watched almost all his games since 06, yes im a football nerd) He has a better all around game than aquilani, cesc, and arteta. he is a better defender than scholes, and better at offense than xavi. Either way i agree he is finally getting recognition (which i have been claiming him underrrated for years) and that's why i posted that article saying he might officially not be underrated anymore, but he deserves to be in the top 10 midfielders whether he is top 10 overall is debatable.

It's hard for a player to find his form when he is shunted all over the place. Although I do not think he can do everything defensively for a midfield. In fairness few can.

By possession I also mean his ability on the ball and the attacking qualities that derive from them. For the players in question I believe all of them are more comfortable on the ball and can do more with it. With Iniesta I see him more as a ball carrier instead of a creative midfielder in the mold of the others named. He is more comfortable defending then them but while he can both defend/attack he does not do either to the overall standard of the players I named. He's a very rounded player but not exceptional at anything in particular. It's why he got little attention because while he was a key player and the glue in the side he simply did not stand out. It might change when he manages to secure a single starting position but we simply do not know.

I believe Muntari is underrated.
Also Fabrice Muamba is performing well and keeping under the radar. I expect him to gain more recognition soon.

Yes, no way Arteta or Aquilani are ahead of Iniesta now or about the last season. Xavi couldn't be about the last year specifically and I'm not sure about the current Scholes.

yes, There definitely is a reason why Iniesta starts for the national team and Arteta has never been called up. Either way, they are both underrated

He is very underrated. The guy is class and has easily been our best player this season and was good in the Euro.
Tim Cahill.
Goal scoring machine, one of the best goal scoring midfielders in the world.

There is a reason why Arteta no matter how good he plays cannot get a call up. I think it might be because he plays in England or David Moyes(Everton Manger) is very tight on letting players play for there country and wont let him play.

i only think that iniesta and aquilani dont play in the same position, playing as wing iniesta is better than aquilani, but playing as central midfielder aquilani is better.
