hey all,
I have a quick question. I have a friend who wants to play in england (league one).
However, he and I don't understand the full regulations regarding non EU players.
I know you have to play X percent of your internationals, but is there any more than this? And there is a rule that the country must be ranked higher than some rank..??.. anyone know what this is?
Also, he was a youth international. He played in every single official game at the U19/U20 level. He played in the AFC youth championships, and all these tournaments recognized by the AFC. However they were all Youth level internationals, so does this count? He's 20 now btw.
Also, he was approached at the end of last season by an english club from league one. I'm sure the team would have never talked to him, if they knew he didn't meet the requirements... so where they wrong in approaching him , or did they find some loophole for him to go play in england?

have an EU passport or have played 75% of first team internationals for a country ranked 70th or above over the past 2 years.

Or a cast-iron reason why you should be allowed a permit if either the above proves problematic.
After all, it worked for Watfords Al Bangura. He was about to be thrown out, but has since been awarded a work permit (probably helps he has a kid here, though!)

Isn't there also a "rule" that if player is of exceptional quality he will also be awarded wth work permit. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am a Preston fan, and in the summer we tried to sign GREG DALBY, a US youth international. He work permit was refused twice. It seems to be one rule for the big teams, and another for the smaller teams.

Just recently, Iraqi star Nashat Akram signed for Man City but was denied by the Home Office because although he played in 75% of Iraq's internationals, Iraq was just outside of the top 70. They're ranked 71st.

It would help if you read and understood the regulations.
Where is Dalby playing now?

if your friends not white, then a good thing for him is to fly to some obscure country that our immigration services have never heared of. Then fly to England, Tell them when he gets there, that he can't speak English and doesn't plan on ever getting a job. They most likely will give him a house, and pay his bills in a reasonable place like Birmingham. Although the tricky bit is actually playing for a football team officially.... that part I haven't figured out yet/

Yes. Because when Liverpool was given the honour of "European Capital of Culture" this year. It also became it's own country.
