If people were to tell me that the owner of Liverpool which is also the owner of Gillette were to sell Liverpool to a Dubai investment guru because 88percent of the fans demanded it I would be shocked. But then again Liverpool's victory is also MLS's gain because now Gillette can invest in a Montreal expansion team which already has a huge fan base in place and could actually make money from his investment unlike at Liverpool where winning is first and making money second.

The article mostly talks about how poor Gillette is and how he shouldn't have purchased the Liverpool club because he isn't super rich. There is no mention of MLS or Montreal soccer.

As a life long Montrealer, i hope that Montreal does receive its own mls franchise one day. But as it stands now, we have no concrete evidence that this will happen any time soon. I have my fingers crossed though.

Saputo.

Building the Impact a stadium and he has $$$ (whether it's clean money or not, not sure).

You can use the old Expo stadium as a temp facility. Right on the Metro, 20 mins away from where the Habs play. Easy, n'est-ce pas?

The habs play downtown, the Expos played in the east end ghetto part of the city. And I don't think anyone wants to go back to that stadium. I'm not even sure if its used anymore. 2 billion $$$ well spent.

His money is clean, Joey has never been investigated.

Papa Saputo, was in passing.

Why would we Play in the Big O? A reason NASL were run out was because of size, rent and concessions(moot issue now).

Taboga;

George Gillett is not associated with the Gillette corporation... a little research would have brought that out. I believe his family made their money (and they have plenty, just not the $1bn it takes to finance the Liverpool takeover) in car dealerships, amongst other things.
As to MLS in Montreal, the Saputo family own the Impact and the new stadium where the Impact will play this year. It isn't impossible that an MLS franchise would go to another group I suppose, but I can't see how it would work if the stadium owners aren't the franchisees.... It's hard to imagine the Saputos being all that interested in any outside partners, much less a controlling interest partner. They have the cash, they don't need the headache of another partner I'm sure.

With regard to Gillett/Hicks selling (or being forced to sell) Liverpool, that's unlikely. They are the owners and have just successfully refinanced. The Kop might be wild about it, but they can't force a sale (unless they are willing to stop buying tickets en mass... and I wouldn't hold my breath on that one).
