With the recent play of Adam Federici during the FA Cup and the possible signing of Wojciech Kowalewski does this spell the end to Hahnemann's Reading career? He did reach an incentive in his contract which gives him another year on his contract but with the amount of goals that have been conceded this season should Coppell make a change in net? While I love Marcus' style of play he is getting up in years and it may be time to part ways. I say that as long as he stays healthy and plays at a high level we should let him play out his contract but if Federici keeps elevating his game and Kowalewski is signed Coppell may have other ideas.

Thoughts anyone???

I think he's done only when his contract runs out in 2009, not any sooner. Don't forget, we do have one of the highest conceded goal counts in the Premiership, Marcus leads the league in saves. This certainly hints at a HUGE problem with our back line, rather than our goalkeeper. However, he is getting older and will probably only have one or two more years left in him. I would suspect they are planning on either Federici or Kowalewski being his replacement upon his retirement next year, or perhaps the one after, rather then one this season. Then again, I'm not Steve Coppell, so what do I know.

I hate to say it, but maybe it is time to part with ways with Marcus. He is getting up there in age and hasn't been on par compared to his previous seasons. One example is the Pompey howler at the Mad Stad. From what I hear, Kowalewski is a fantastic goal keeper. He has a lot of experience in the Champions League and could be a valuable keeper. In the link below, Coppell says Kowalewski can be signed as a cover keeper for his first choise keepers. I would like to see Marcus get more time in goal before a definite decision can be made.

Comparing his effort this year to last it he looks like he has given up some easy goals as of late. I would not be surprised that they are grooming for a new gk, but I agree that if Reading really want to improve the situation that they focus on the back line as bouncing soul pointed out.

USA's save against MU's Hargreaves was the save of the season IMHO.

He also made a fantastic save against Ronaldo from point blank range. I don't blame him for either of MU's goals.

The issue isn't Handy Man, the issue is and always has been the back line.

Marcus definitely made a case for himself during the MAN U game. The back line has been rather porous at times which has put Marcus in a lot of tough spots. Cisse seems like a good possibility at the back and I hope Coppell gives him another shot against Chelsea. Hahnemann is definitely my guy in net but the way things were looking weren't too good. If he gets a couple more good games under his belt he will cement himself a little more. BouncingSoul makes a good point that Hahnemann does lead the EPL in saves which shows that he is doing his job. I hope Coppell is just looking at depth with Kowalewski. It could just be posturing by Coppell as well. Maybe to light a fire under Marcus, either way I see it as a good move to sign him.

I thought Marcus looked solid in goal against ManUre. There was that brilliant flick by Rooney and Ronaldo breakaway which you can not blame Marcus on. He made some great saves and kept Reading in the late stages of the game. It also lookes like Kovalevski won't sign with Reading and will sign with an Italian club instead. Maybe Coppell changed his mind after Saturday's performance.

Yes I also read that Kovalevski will not sign and I was thinking the same thing. I think that game was a combination of good defensive play and timely goal keeping. Any team other than one of the big 4 and we win that game. Tough one. :(
