Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere:
Nike to supply France football team from 2011-18 (http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5i-6LfrTh2rBE54rPUEu3GU0sXNlQ)

thanks for the info - pretty excited about this actually - have not been a fan of adidas' gear for some time now.

i dont understand why nike see france as that big a market, sure they are a good team but to pay that much.. i just dont get it.

still i think puma do the best looking kits.

France is a huge market, their Merchandise is sold everywhere. France itself is a big enough country alone for Nike to want a piece of the pie. When you factor in the World Wide appeal the brand is worth it for Nike to bid so much.

i understand that france is a huge market. and their players are very marketable. and i can understand nike bidding a lot of money.

but i just can't see why nike would bid THAT much.

FOUR times the current rate?

unless adidas and/or airness were neck and neck in a bidding war...and that wouldn't make much sense for a small company like airness to bid, say, 30m. who knows how much adidas were willing to max out at. but it's the 4x that really has me shaking my head.

i wonder how much longer the brazil contract has left.

as many big money deals go, it's risky for nike though. a lot of merchandise success that france has had in the recent past is due to zidane and henry, to some extent. maybe nike are hoping the likes of benzema, nasri, co. will bank.

Yea I have to admit that ain't chump change, but then companies that big, u gotta assume someone did some pretty impressive number-forecasts b4 they even sniffed at it- otherwise im sure thats just a drop in the ocean even if it ain't a cash cow...
But then also figure in that the 4.5 times existing deal is reflective of a deal prolly brokered 5, 10 years back....

yea, you're right. i'm sure nike had people that ran numbers.

but they said france's current contract started in 2004. and nike's paying brazil 13m a year. didn't they just renew that contract last year when there were talks of adidas going after brazil?

i find it hard to believe that a sponsorship contract could have increased that much in value over 4 years. but what do i know?

anyways. you're right about 40m being a drop in the ocean for a company as big as nike.

well kudos for nike and the fff.

Like I said im not arguing that im convinced that it is a sure-fire value for money decision, mebe 3 years back when Henry was the main guy in the world and the main figurehead for the vapor range (ignoring the money thrown down ronaldo's neck!)...
In truth I don't know much about this area of business, but what I can say is French football has been synonymous with the 3 stripes since longer than I can remember, thinking back to the days of didier six and platini with the stripes on their arms back when france were enjoyably the best team never to win anything....Dunno how they'll look in swooshes but saying that im half-watching the posh egg chasing and im sure they must've spent many years playing rugby in adidas b4 the switch to the tacky jump onto englands bandwagon....

Not sure how long the contract between Brazil and Nike is, but there were rumors of Adidas making a serious move on Brazil a while back (when Nike was chasing Germany).

i like how simple the white is, very classy.
do they not have a sponsor, or just not have one set for next year?

They do have a couple of sponsors actually (kinda like the teams in the french league).. maybe three different patches on the shirt.

The ones that are sold in stores looks like that (and the shirts used in CL and the UEFA-cup features just one sponsor, ICA on the front).
