Brazilian twins Fabio and Rafael arrive in England on Monday to begin their careers with Manchester United - but they cannot play for The Red Devils until the summer.

United spotted the talented Fluminese pair - both full-backs - playing in a youth tournament in Hong Kong two years ago.

After a trial in 2006, Sir Alex Ferguson wasted little time in landing the highly-rated duo.

Now after two years jetting to England for brief stints - the 17-year-olds have been given the green-light to complete their switch to United and they will arrive on Monday with their family.

"After eights visits to Manchester United, we will travel to live in England," said Rafael who is a right-back, whilst his brother Fabio is a left-back.

"In the last two years we went there about every three months, we stayed for 10 days and then returned to Fluminese.

"This time we will have the whole family, father, mother and my older brother's wife with him."

Impact

Rafael revealed that the duo cannot wait to move to Europe and they are buoyed by the recent impact of Alexandre Pato at Milan - who scored on his debut last weekend.

"We know there are Brazilians of our age doing well, Anderson, who is our friend, at Manchester United and we talk to [Liverpool's] Lucas who used to be at Gremio by MSN," he continued.

"But the greatest example for us is Alexandre Pato. Who knows; perhaps we can follow the same path as The Duck?"

Neither player has been able to feature for Fluminese's first-team as United have been keen for them to look after themselves.

"The club feared that we might get hurt," said Fabio.

"We would have preferred to play, but there was also the fear that the fans would have wanted us to stay.

"We have just continued to train - but it is a pity we have not had the chance to play in Rio as a professional."

Olympic dream

The duo will not officially be able to play for United until they turn 18 in July but Fabio - Brazilian Under 17 captain - has some hope that he could yet play in the Olympics.

"I will have only been in training for six months, without a game, at Manchester United and at the most I will have played a few friendlies," he said.

"This will probably remove me from the Brazilian team; although Dunga has praised me and Jorginho [Dunga's assistant] has already talked to me about the Olympics."

Being an identical twin myself I find this really hard to comprehend. I can't imagine signing for Man Utd with my twin brother. Especially as one os a left-back and the other is a right-back.

Still, they're meant to be good. God knows how we got work permits for them though....

Being one myself also, why is it so hard to comprehend? In fact, that's what makes the most sense. They come to Europe together and from there they can move on to their seperate careers but it's essential they start off together. The de Boers did.

It's good to get them in and settled early. I'm undecided on what to do with them though. Obviously they will not make an impact for a couple of years but do we keep them here in our reserves for a year to allow them to adjust, develop and train with our players or do we ship them out on loan? I cannot see any Premiership clubs being interested and I think the Championship might be too difficult a task. Perhaps a move to a top League One side like we have done with Brandy might be the best option. At least for six months initially so we can gauge what level they are at and what the best option for their develoment will be. Anyone have any thoughts?

League One? They're(were) top players in the Brazil under 17 team for pete's sake. Either we keep them in our reserves and train them or send them out on loan in a higher division league. I'm leaning towards the first option.

Hmmm... Reserves for 6months to a year and then a loan to a dutch club for 6 months to a year again sounds about right for me. They might return to United just about 19 I think and with some experience here and some experience in Holland. I think their skills will translate well in Eredivisie. Then we can stick them in the reserves and see their level again. If its up to scratch and we've got room for them then fine, if not, off to a Prem promotee.

I wouldn't mind them getting blooded the hard way in League One. Like you said, they were in the Brazilian U-17 team. League One would put some hair on their chest.

I don't think anyone in League One would make it on the Brazilian U-10 team much less pose a test for the Silva brothers.

It has more to do with them getting a bit of a kicking and preparing them for English football.

Precisely. They already have the technique and offensive game but if we want them to be rounded then they need to work on their physique and defensive game.
