Steve Jobs keynote at MacWorld this afternoon; provided in Quicktime at Apple (http://www.apple.com) and without delay at other sites (http://www.ipodlounge.com)... Buzz is potential release of ultrathin laptops, movie rentals via iTunes, 2nd Gen iPhone, high-def/blue-ray support, or enhanced Wi-Fi with the advance of "Something in the Air" theme??? Personally I hope some software upgrades are released by Apple; iPhone and iPod Touch... don't rule out the much awaited touch-screen laptop (along the Newton lines) or perhaps the iPhone being unhinged from AT&T... In any event... if you don't have Apple stock I recommend you get it... it is very high and predicted to go much higher...

Every year, I usually sign up for a free exhibit hall pass, thinking I'll take a day off from work and head up there and check it out, and then I never do. So this year, I didn't bother to sign up for the free pass, and then I quit my job a month or so ago, so now I finally have the time to go up there and check it out... but no pass this year... bummer. Oh well, it's not like I need to go spend money on new toys.

The MacBook Air looks sweet:

Apple boss Steve Jobs has unveiled the world's thinnest laptop, called the MacBook Air.
The computer, which is 0.76 inches (1.93cm) at its thickest point, was unveiled at an event in San Francisco.

Paying for the iPod Touch application upgrade BLOWS.

I've got an iPhone so the apps are included for me, but I wouldn't pay $20 for them. There's no reason they shouldn't be free.

Personally I was disappointed in this MacWorld. I don't care about their new movie rental service and HD?? Please, it's only 720p. Not impressed when I can rent an actual disc for the same price and get much more, and have it in 1080p with better sound.

iPhone update? eh, I have mixed feelings on it. Some things are cool, others I could care less about. I want to be able to download podcasts directly to my iPhone through the mobile iTunes. Now that would be cool.

MacBook Air. So much hype, and it's a cool concept but it's not for me. No optical drive, and if you want one it's an extra $100.. no thanks. Only 1 USB port and no FireWire? hell no. I have money set aside for a new comp and was looking forward to getting something cool. Guess I'll just max out a Mac Mini and keep the extra cash for some peripherals or something.

Personally I was disappointed in this MacWorld...

It certainly was not Apple's best showing... The Steve Jobs fan boys are playing up Apple's technology yet the products and software released from Apple at Macworld are not getting the normal positive reception. Apple faithful are a bit alarmed that iPod Touch users now have to fork over $20 for an upgrade of what are essentially Widgets. Power users who might be customers for the Macbook Air are concerned that being completely reliant upon the internet for connectivity is way too premature: the device has only one USB port and no ethernet connectivity or optical drive and seems all too fragile for road warriors. The market for the Macbook Air may not materialize beyond just the curious. And who among us has patience to download multi-gigabyte movies to rent? Apple's traditional grasp of the market seemed missing from this Macworld...

In the news:
The Steve Jobs reality distortion field malfunctioned at this year's MacWorld Convention. The crowd turned on Steve after he announced the $1799 price of the new Macbook Air laptop. The horrible results:

well, last year's MacWorld would be near impossible to top. the expectations are always so high for this thing .... there were some interesting things to come out of this. but nothing had the sizzle of an iphone.
