On the FA website, there is a survey for the best England player of the year (2007). Has anybody voted yet. I voted for Joey Barton as he had the most refreshingly honest appraisal of the WAG culture and the failures of England at WC 2006. Unfortunately he only appeared for 12 minutes and it is unlikely that he will get anymore (in many ways he resembles Lee Bowyer in terms of his career and its ups and downs).

How on Earth anyone would vote for Joey Barton is beyond me..

I don't think there's any real deserving candidate, but Micah Richards will probably come close.

Stuff it. I've just voted for him as well. Anyone who upsets Fat Frank is worth a vote in my book.

they have been shyte at one point or another, some more than others.
Richards has probably been the most consistently not shyte of the lot.

Micah Richards. I would say Joe Cole, but he was injured for a good portion of spring 2007.

the vote is for 2007 - so why give him the vote for what he (rightfully) said in 2006...
+ he's a thug and other things
btw somewhere small printed I think it's written only UK residents votes will count... (was discussed on the englandfans forums)

Yes, that is another good reason to vote for Barton. Lampard has pretty thin skin doesn't he. IIRC his level of entitlement is pretty high.

You raise some interesting points Ben7.
1. Did he really say it in 2006? If so the failure to recognise the correctness of what he said in 2006 is appalling, and he should have been rewarded in 2007.
2. I appear to be a UK resident the last time I checked, so seeing as so many of you are barred from entering, that makes my vote more powerful.
3. Whether he's a thug or not, he's the only one to speak the truth about that bunch of over-hyped, money-obsessed, Jeep-driving, spit-roasting wastes of space that currently constitute the England national team. So I'll not only be voting for him myself, but I'm going to vote for him on your behalf as well my friend.

Has Joey Barton ever even made the bench for England?

IIRC he played about 20 mins of that completely useless friendly vs Spain.
