After next year he says he may finish off in the Middle East. The strange part is he says money has nothing to do with it but that he liked it there.
Since money is not on his mind, too bad for us in the states he doesn't like it here as much. :)

Qatar is quickly becoming the proverbial stud farm for aging football superstars. Methinks a trip there sometime would be interesting.

I think the middle east is a bit hit and miss, they go after some really good players towards the end of their careers but they also tend to go after some really crap ones with quite a few years left in them, by the time the good players call it a day the pishy ones are still very much alive and kicking.

Sounds a lot like what Larsson is doing now, except for the "hot" bit, :)

I don't think that Larsson ever meant to finish playing football completely in 2004. The suggestion for the last couple of years has been that he would go back to Sweden and play there for a couple of years.

The first time anything different came up was at the time of the UEFA cup final, when it was rumoured he would move to Spain in 2004. But this was dismissed. Now we have these rumours of Qatar.

It is only "retirement" in the sense that he wanted to destroy completely any hope on the part of anyone at Celtic that he would extend the contract beyond 2004.

In swedish media Henrik Larsson has pretty much the same thing every time he's been asked the last year:
- he will not continue with Celtic after the 2003/04 season
- if the opportunity is there he would like a couple of years in a league with better climate than Scotland
- asked specifically about Spain he has answered that he wouldn't mind that, as he has answered questions about other leagues. The only league I've heard him say no to is EPL. Too much like the SPL I would think
- he will return to Sweden in not so many years. If he still wants to play he will play for his old club, Högaborg in swedish second division (third level)

I'm sure we will hear more rumours concerning Henrik the year to come. I think he'll look more after good living environment and good games than good money. I understand he'll make something like 6 M Euros his last year with Celtic. Not bad for a simple kid from the council estates.

Its going to be a sad day at celtic park the day he hangs up his boots, at least for us anyway, the support will wish him well wherever he goes, and I dont think he'll be short of offers.

It's going to be a sad day when he leaves Celtic. They're definetly going to need to get another top striker when he leaves.

I think the only comments he has made are

1. He leave Celtic at the end of his contract
2. He'd like to play somewhere warm
3. He also like to end back up at Hogaborg

Be a real "kick in the guts" to see him go, however he owes us nothing and he would leave us with some great memories (and still some to make this year)

Given MON's transfer dealings we can expect him in 2008 if at all :(
