Splendid work, Treester.

Just when I said I didn't have time to get involved in on-line fantasy football, I not only join yahoo for another premier season, but now I'm in a prediction comp too.

After seeing how cluttered and glitchy the fantasy.premierleague.com site is (I finally gave up on it after getting sent into an endless loop, and I stayed with yahoo), it's SO refreshing to see your clean site with quick, no BS registration.

Add to that: well thought out rules and an easily understood explanation of the point scoring system, and you've created a great site and a compelling competition. Props mate.

I'm so late in on this I'm in the Doc Marten's, and I was just going to ask how many teams from that league get promoted (or more to the point probably in my case) relegated, but you explained that it's really one big league broken down for presentational purposes into the English football pyramid. Even that is so spot on. Top man.

One question for the experienced players, and sorry to sound a bit Alex Fergusony. Is it best to just enter what we think the score is really going to be, or is there a way of "playing the system" to get added advantage? In other words, tactics, gamesmanship etc. You gotta know these things. Maybe I'm going in a bit too deep here.....

Finally, the reason why some people, including myself, register but don't make immediate predictions is that I want to take more to time think about each game. Plus last minute player signings can make a difference. Or can you change your prediction as long as it's before the deadline?

Yeah I tired to make is as BS free as possible.

Yes...You can change your picks a million times if you want. If you log in, and make your picks, then today, you read the Owen pulled his hammy for the millionth time, you can log back in and change that prediction.

Every time you log back in, click the Make picks thing on the left, and it will show you what you have chosen up until then...and then you'll also see the "change/make picks" submit thing at the bottom.

quick for no reason update :/

Someone has made a sockpuppet on the "other" soccer message board...Yeah, that one...and started spamming this game, and I got an email from on of the mods over there yelling at me thinking it was me :D

Someone obviously is taking this way too seriously

After years of reading BigSoccer, it's an honor to use my first post to compliment Tree on the EPLPL site.

Should be fun.

Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, this first week is particular. Starting at 1200AM Sunday, you can begin to pick Week 3, and that will be the norm, for the rest of the season.

We are up to 155 total players

Tree,

I am into the site now trying to make my week two picks for this Saturday the 23rd and I can't get into them. All it will bring up is Week 3 picks for Sunday the 24th.

You indicated that we would be able to get back into these games and make the picks after the first round games have been played.

I still think you have a fundamental problem by looking at these games by DATE instead of by ROUND.

You stated in another email that a ROUND is from Sunday to Saturday -- but that's not how they work. The first round was Saturday 8/16 to Sunday 8/17.

The next round is Saturday 8/23 to Sunday 8/24.

The 3rd round is Monday 8/25 to Wednesday 8/27.

The 4th round is Satuday 8/30 to Sunday 8/31.

Right now, you have "WEEK 3" up for picks and you're making us make picks for games that are 2 rounds away on the 30th -- suspensions, injuries, etc. could dramatically alter the prospects of a team between now and then.

I'm not getting into it again with you kevin. There are no Rounds in the EPL. There are in Germany, Italy, Spain etc...the EPL schedule is not linear, so I went by week...

Thats the way it is for this game

Sunday to Saturday.

if you disagree, play one of the other 526,901,337 games on the internet

Tree old mate - I must say it does seem a bit odd not to see the Sunday games like CAFC vs Citeh; Pool vs Chelscum etc, which were part of the first weekend (I won't dare say "round") of Premiership matches.

The Premiership tends to run its approximation of "rounds" from Saturday thru Monday, sometimes even Tues and Wed. during holidays etc. so perhaps Thursday as the day to start the week might be the way to go next season.

Look why am I dissing when you've done such a terrific job? Do you use some kind of Perl to calculate everyone's tallies - must be a sophisticated piece of programming?

Anyway I'm probably just flailing around for reasons to bitch after I find myself well and truly stuck in the Dr Martens with a looming relegation struggle on my hands. Oh I forgot, we're in America, there is no relegation.

Also, what happened to your cool Everton crest avatar?

Sunday's matches are part of Week 2

:/

Week 1 had only one day's worth of matches...Saturday...which would have been the last day of week 1

Sundays matches, i.e. Pool - Chelski were the first day of week 2, so those will be tabulated next Monday, along with any matches until the 23rd.

Call it weeks, rounds, days, whatever you want, but it's not set up right if you have to pick multiple games ahead without knowing who is available to the teams.

Sure they don't play specific rounds -- just like MLS doesn't. So break them down by date.

Or even break them down by date but start it on Friday -- not Sunday right in the middle of a SINGLE BLOCK of games.

I won't be going to play one of the other 5+M game because I visit, socialize and play on Bigsoccer. I just unfortunately won't be playing the EPL Bigsoccer league this year which I was looking forward to a lot.

Due to work, I was not able to register / play last week, but I really wanted to join in. You've done a fabulous job with this Treetaliano. Is it too late for me to register, having missed the first week?

Nutty,
Good to see that you joined up. We now have enough participants for a "Unibond Premier" League. So Tree, what league comes next, and BTW, are these real? How far down have you preserved actual league names and league sizes? (Do enlighten: Before EPLPL, my understanding of the English league system tapped out at Conference.)
Thanks,
~OG3

Tree - your loyal sheep are lost without you, oh guru :)

I think he's finally been pushed too far by all our smart arse comments on this thread. He never bargained for the PR aspect of the job, he's only a damn good programmer, for chrissakes!

Now you know why people at Yahoo, BBC etc. keep their distance from the unwashed masses - it demands a lot from the psyche to keep everybody happy.

Still, as has been said so often here, he's created an excellent contest and I still boggle at the programming involved in tallying everyone's results and assigning the correct points every week or so.

I can write some nuts and bolts HTML code, but the sort of stuff involved with this effort leaves me in great admiration.

Tree is a God among mere mortals.

Long live the Mother of all Prediction Leagues!

Ok...so now we've got a new type of system...sorta..

as kevbrunton pointed out numerous times, it "would" have been better to do a Saturday start to each week, and as I pointed out, it wasnt really possible.

However, ther has been a lot of confusion on who picks were to be made, so I made a compromise from what I was doing and similar to what kevbrunton "suggested"

anyways, now there are no weekly deadlines. The only deadline will be that you have to have the pick by the day before the match.

The SCORING however, will now go according to the Saturday first schedule...

I suggest those of you have already signed up to go check out the details

http://sf1000.registeredsite.com/~user965740/eplgame/index.php

Also, keep in mind that there will be no matches from Aug 31st to Sep 13 so there will be a lag in the game.
