Of the seven movies you listed, only one, Hoosiers, deserves to be mentioned in this category.

BILB was good, but should not be on the list.
Anyone who votes for Mighty Ducks will be summarily shot.
And you should have the likes of Eight Men Out, The Natural and others on this list way ahead of some of those you've listed. See Bull Durham and a few others, then re-post a poll.

Well Bad News Bears deserves honorable mention. But where is The Natural? Or Slap Shot? Or The Longest Yard? Or North Dallas Forty? But I get it, you only saw the ones listed. Seriously though, someone's really got to make a good movie about soccer.

Sheesh! I put up movies that I have seen and these were the ones at the top of my head when I posted this poll. I did see "Field of Dreams" and "The Natural," but still think "A League of Their Own" was better. I have not seen "Eight Men Out." "Slap Shot," or even "Caddyshack" in its entirety.
That's why option 8 allow you to name your favorite.

Raging Bull is the best film that invovles sports.SOmemight say The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick, but I haven't seen it, so I can't say.
But Bull Durham is probably the best "sports movie" in the sense of what the phrase implies, i.e. that it revolves around a sport, rather than serve as a backdrop for a character study or intellectual exposition. .

Anyway, here's my top 3:
1. Bull Durham
2. Hoosiers
3. Sandlot
Honorable mention: Bring It On
Also, I caught Seabiscuit yesterday. Really enjoyed it, despite its tenedency to lapse into cheesiness from time to time. Without a doubt the best horseracing movie that I have seen, or will see, ever.
If you include documentary, you'd have to mention Hoop Dreams. I haven't seen Go Tigers! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006ADER/qid=1059923207/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-3050133-1491066?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846) though I heard it was excellent.

My vote goes to John Sayles' "Eight Men Out." Some quick thoughts on the top films, by sport, excluding documentaries:
Soccer - "Fever Pitch." Not the book by any means (which is more of a meditation than anything else), but not as bad as some of its critics maintain. There really hasn't been a great soccer movie, which is somewhat surprising, given soccer's popularity world wide.
Rugby - "This Sporting Life." This could have been the great soccer movie, except that it's about another game featuring a green field and a round ball.
NFL - None, although there's a curio called "Easy Living" which offers an interesting look at the game in the late 40s.
College Football - None. Most have been too sentimental to pass muster.
Baseball - "Eight Men Out." A masterpiece, and it helps that the actors passably resemble ballplayers, which is rarely the case in baseball films..
Hockey - "Slapshot." Not much competition.
Basketball - "Hoosiers." Not too hokey and based on a true story (fairly accurately)
Boxing - Probably the most competitive category. "Raging Bull" and "Requiem for a Heavyweight" are good, but I prefer "The Harder They Fall" (Bogart's last film).
Golf - "Banning." Made for TV in the late 60s, probably not on video. About a struggling
golfer (Robert Wagner) who's been kicked off the PGA tour.
Tennis - Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train." Well, actually it's about murder, but there are scenes at Forest Hills.
Grand Prix - None. "Grand Prix" has the outline of a classic (superb photography and a potentially great story line), but little substance or depth. Except for Montand and Celli (pretending to be Enzo Ferrari), the performances are weak and I just can't stand the sportscaster voice-overs.
Horse Racing - Kubrick's "The Killing." Well, actually it's about a heist, but there are scenes at Bay Meadows. "Seabiscuit" probably will become the champ in this category, but I haven't seen it.
Indy Car - None, unless you go back to the 30s and stuff like "The Crowd Roars."
NASCAR - None. "Days of Thunder" is just "Top Gun" goes to Daytona.
Olympics - "Chariots of Fire." Not much competition here either. Don't care for the music.

Rather than wrestle with my conscience over Field of Dreams and Bull Durham, I think I'll go way off the board to a great Spencer Tracy-Katharine Hepburn movie called Pat and Mike.
Spencer Tracy is a sports agent who maybe doesn't do things by the book. But when he meets golfer/tennis player/boxer??? Katharine Hepburn he straightens up and flies right. Since she's a natural athlete she did the golfing, tennis playing, shooting and other skills needed in the film.
Lots of great lines in the movie too.

Yeah, on further analysis my post was a little too snarky. Sorry about that. I don't care much for boxing, so I shouldn't comment on boxing movies.

The original question depends on your intention. "A league of their own" is a good movie, "The Mighty Ducks" is not good for our age but excellent for kids. Going into the comedy/trash direction I liked "Cleveland Indians" (first part only), "Tin Cup" and "Happy Gilmore".

Man, I don't think I could ever figure a sports movie to be better than Hoosiers. I know plenty of adult males (I may or may not be included in that list) who will admit to tearing up during that film. Well written, well acted, real.
I can't stand baseball anymore but Bull Durham is still on my top 3 sports movies as well. What a great piece of work.
I don't think I've seen these on my list, but I'd also nominate the original "Rocky" but nothing else from that series.
And I can't believe no one mentioned "Breaking Away" (and, no, I'm not from Indiana).

I'm gonna get some crap for this, but my two favorite sports movies are "Field of Dreams" and "Rudy."
For comedic value and because I love hockey, "Slap Shot" and the French-Canadian "Les Boys" are up there as well.
