I beg to differ. You're entitled to your opinion of course, but there is doubt.

well no one is as consistent as buffon

You're kidding me right? Casillas has 6 straight league shut-outs (sounds pretty consistent to me). I can't believe i'm actually defending Casillas :D being a Barcelona fan.

Casillas is clearly best GK in the world

casillas is great, but how quickly we forget, a) buffon is as always, having a great year, just there's no ray hudson (l like him btw) equivalent on fsc to slobber over his every save (hell, hudson gives casillas credit when the balls hits the bar, as if he "willed" it onto the bar, lol) and b) casillas had some really poor distribution earlier this season and last season had some minor flaws in his cross collection.

yeah, this is nitpicking, but when you are talking about going up against buffon, a keeper already probably in the top 20 all-time if he retires tomorrow, little flaws stand out. I put buffon at 1, casillas just behind, and then a gap with cech at 3. cech made another gaff on the weekend to go with clangers versus reading, villa, and arsenal among others this season. it really is starting to reach a point where, at least for this year, one can safely put him well below casillas and buffon, imho.

how people can say clearly one way or the other I don't know, for every great save casillas has made this year, buffon has been doing likewise for those that watch both leagues closely, they can attest to this.

Reina is better than Cech and has been for a while now. How Cech won the UEFA club GK of the year award baffles me.

I agree this year he's been better but last year cech didn't really play so I'll give him a pass.

But as of today Gigi is STILL the best keeper in the world and has been for atleast the past 5 years.

If someone can tell me a more consistent keeper for the past 5 years I would love to know.

So people lean Buffon others lean Casillas. I don't think there's a correct answer. Both have their merits. I persoanlly lean towards Casillas because without him I honestly believe this Madrid side wouldn't be first place (hell they'd probably be 4th at best) and most certainly wouldn't have won the league last year.

You can say the samething about WC06 without Gigi Italy would have never won. Juve's scudetti that they have won, the CL final and so on.

But your right. Its a matter of opinion and for me until Gigi starts slowing down and starts showing signs that he's slumping, he's #1 in my book.

yeah, to me those are clearly the top 2, but i don't think one is clearly above the other

true, those scudetto years, buffon had some masterful performances, especially against milan the direct and closest rival to the scudetti those last couple of years, that really helped make the difference, and this year, if buffon and dida were switched, juventus would be on about 30 points and milan would be on 31 or so with two games in hand.

in other words, basically you can switch juve's and milan's positions in the table with just switching those 2 players. granted, casillas had some shite defenses in front of him, and as mentioned, he was probably the most valuable contributor to madrid's la liga crown, and that is saying something given ruud nearly won the european golden boot. they are both stupendous and both save their team's arses time and time again, and both are nearly flawless.

I have discussed Reina with you on countless occasions and you still refuse to accept that he is not the greatest keeper to have ever played the game. Your claim that he is better than Cech and has been for a while is laughable, particularly when you consider that Reina is not even in the top three in England.

He is no where near the greatest GK to play the game, but he is better than Cech...his record speaks for itself.

No, it does not. You would be very hard pressed to find anyone, including Liverpool fans, to agree with your claims. In fact I challenge you to create a poll on the subject.

The question about who is the world's best goalkeeper can be debated until the end of time. However, I think we can all agree that this guy is going to be legendary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgYDyKj9XpI&feature=related
