From Today's Fiver in the Guardian:

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"They were swearing at him. The language was terrible and they were even making references to his mother. Even then, Jamie just told them to calm down" - a Luton fan reveals how Jamie Carragher lived up to stereotype when confronted by Luton fans who'd dressed in shellsuits, curly wigs and false moustaches for last Sunday's FA Cup tie.

Carra handled it better than I would have. Ahhh the days when I used to banter with the other team's club and school fans. Not the nicest things, mind you.

I think Carra and the rest of the team handled themselves well in this situation. Leaving Luton fans looking poor and Carra looking like a class individual as expected.

The story was actually well reported. They didn't make Carra to look bad, nor did they say it was all the Luton fans, just a select few idiots. The press finally gets something right...amazing.

Wow, I find myself dissing the profession I am going into more and more...

they were there to take the piss, they were wearing old shell suits, perm wigs and fake tashes, and putting fake scouse accents on to take the piss out of JC, then they just got worse throwing beer and being twats.

cockney bastards

Meh. If we're going to get upset everytime someone wheels out 15-year old comedy routines, we'll never get a moment of peace. I mean, Harry Enfield's "Scouser" skit was mildly amusing when first aired and it was inevitable that it would make the jump to the terraces and stay there for a few years, but it's hardly worth getting riled about now. All this proves is that some Scousers have nowhere near the required amounts of "the famous Scouse sense of humour (TM)" that the media says all Merseysiders have in abundance - and that Luton is stuck in 1994.

If only this were true. The original story broke on Tuesday in the Sun who attempted to stitch up Carragher.

It is Luton fans who were present and witnessed the events and then read the Sun's smear story who came forward with the actual events. It is this more complete story that subsequently appeared later in the Times and exonerated Carra.

The Sun are hateful scum. Sadly there are a large number of people who get all their news from such a distorted and malicious source. Mostly f@ckwits but there you go!
