Qualification will soon begin and there is a push around the country for a more organized Sam's Army. The system, at least as I understand it, will be to set up Brigades in each city/region that will help host games and attend games in other regions. There will be a conference call soon with people from different cities.

Since I've usually taken the lead on KC folks going to USMNT games, I figured I'd step up and be the contact point for KC. I'll keep everyone informed.

I usually make at least one or two qualifiers. I'll be up for a roadtrip.

Southwest has $99 flights to Houston which sounds like a pretty good option!

If I go (still considering), I'd probably drive the 200 miles to KC and fly from there.

Though it's hard to beat the camaraderie of lots of people in a small vehichle for 12 hours!

If the game wasn't midweek, I'd consider it... :(

I love Cauldron road trips. But the trip to Columbus in 05 was 10 times better then any Cauldron road trip I've ever been on.

Ben, I'm in for being part of the KC Brigade and if we want to set up a regional brigade with Springfield, MO (of course taking directions from us) being involved I know a guy who would love to organize it.

Yes! I like how you think. We will have detachments or battalions in Springfield, Tulsa, Lawrence, Wichita, Omaha and wherever IASocFan is from.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_unit#Units.2C_Formations_.26_Commands), the next size down from brigade is regiment, then battalion...

But I still like my original idea of detachments...

Somebody get Hanson in here and see what he thinks... :)

Glad to see you're taking this on Ben. Your help is appreciated.

Well if you want to get all technical about it, generally regiments are not used in the Army. Regiments are still used by the Marine Corps and by Army SOCOM, but the regular Army organizes under a "triangular" system, which generally runs 3 Battalions to the Brigade. This all depends on what sort of a division you are talking about too. Infantry is used in most examples, but other sorts of units may vary greatly. Yes, a Brigade is a larger unit than a Regiment however. Rangers are organized as a regiment--75th to be specific, with one battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington and two more in Columbus, GA.

So, in short, it's a cluster; you can organize Sam's Army any way you see fit. Regiments it is!

Of course if it's less than 10 people, "detachment" is probably a more appropriate term than "regiment". I see what you mean. :)
