View Full Version : January Transfer Window

Just thought it might be a good idea to have a thread to talk about the January transfer window and all the various rumours and such like about players coming in and leaving!

Of course the first player to leabe was Adrian Forbes who has left us to go to London with Millwall in League One (L1). Always a player who gave 100% every single game but who is more of a L1 player and has struggled to even get in the match day squad this season in The Championship.

Other players who are being talked about leaving include:

Rhys Evans - went on loan to L2 Bradford City and made the BIG mistake of then giving an interview to their local press in which he slagged off the Blackpool fans. I very much doubt he will ever play for us again anyway, and a lot of fans would never forgive him for that interview. Given that we are also supposedly bringing in a new keeper, his days look numbered at Bloomers.

Marcus Bean - was on loan at L2 Rotherham United. Various rumours have been going around about his, err how can I put this politely, "nose habits" that he sniffs a lot. Hasn't featured apart from a few minutes this season and will surely be on his way to a L1 or L2 club.

Paul Tierney - currently on loan at Stockport County in L2. Likely to either have his loan extended or made permanent.

Phil Doughty - young player sent out on loan to get experience, at L2 Macclesfield Town. Made his debut for the 'Pool in 2002 in the FA Cup when he was 16m but has struggled with injuries and has never got in the team. He will struggle to even get in the match day squad and can see him leaving.

Simon Wiles - another young player on loan at Macclesfield, where he was on loan last season too. Presumably either a loan extension or permanent move.

The only other 'Pool player out on loan is Canadian, Michael D'Agostino who is at Cheltenham Town in L1. However, it is very unlikely that he will be leaving. He was their Man of the Match in his home debut against Port Vale and even though he has only played 2 full games and 2 sub appearances for them, he is apparently doing very well. I expect him to come back eventually (his loan period has just been extended for another 4 weeks and may be extended for another 4 weeks after that) and fight for a first team place at The Mighty.

Other players who are likely to at least have other clubs trying to sign them -

Keigan Parker - he almost certainly is on his way out. His "Massage Parlour" incident made front page local headline news and his off-pitch antics haven't done him any good at all. He has also failed to score one goal so far this season, which for a striker is pretty bad. He will of course always be remembred for that wonder goal at Wembley in May which sealed our return to the second tier, but we need strikers who can score. The latest is that he will be on his way to Barnsley. L1 clubs Swansea City and Nottingham Forest were also apparently interested, but with Barnsley being in The Championship I am surehe would rather stay up North.

Wes Hoolahan - all sorts of supposed interest in the Irish wizard! Plenty of Championship clubs have supposedly been watching him including, Wolves, Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and various others. Blackpool have said though that they do not need to sell him and it would take "silly money" to prise him away from us. Though what "silly money" comprises, I don't know. To me it would need to be £2M+ and even then I wouldn't want to see him leave. We need him and without him I think we would struggle to stay up this season.

Players in -

The latest two players being named are

Noel Hunt, Irish striker with Dundee United in the SPL - todays papers reckon we have bid £275,000 for him which is way, way below their valuation of him. Can't see him coming.

Stephen McPhee - Socttish striker with Hull City. He apparently nearly signed at the end of last week but it got held up for some reason. Supposedly coming next week for about £200,000. Used to play for Port Vale in L1 where he scored 39 goals. Also played a season in the top flight in Portugal with S.C. Beira-Mar.

Also this coming week there are four East Europeans coming back again for trials. They all came before Christmas and are back again. One is rumoured to be a goalkeeper, and the name of Joey Didulicahas been bandied about (Australian-born Croatian International keeper with AZ Alkmaar in Holland). Not sure if he is one or just a rumour.

There have been numerous other rumoured names mentioned and I am sure other names will come up through the month too. Let the games begin!

There are strong rumors that Paul Dalglish will not be returning to the Dynamo next season. There is also reliable information that he is "trying out" for teams in England. Don't know if there has been any talk in the sports news in GB about that.

The Dynamo will miss him.

Rumours and rumours and more rumours. No doubt lots will happen until this damn stupid transfer window closes on 31st January.

Anyway, today Simon Grayson denied that Keigan Parker is going to Barnsley stating that he (Parker) had been in the 'Pools match day squad for the FA Cup match at (ironicall) Barnsley yesterday but just didn't make the final 16 for the match. So who knows what is happening with Parker as I'm sure he will be off somewhere!

Also tonight the latest is that there are two foreign players "in town" - a Danish player and a Latvian player, both staying at the Hilton Hotel on the prom apparently! Rumours hey!

And so it goes on, and on and on and on -

Noel Hunt - Sly Sports today carried the story that we had bid for the lad, but it was turned down as nowhere near Dundee Uniteds valuation of him.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_3028600,00.html (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_3028600,00.html)

The triallists in this week someone on the Blackpool Vital Message Board has reported them as being (takes deep breath)

1. Éric Akoto - Togo international defender, 27 years old , plays for Interblock Ljubljana in Slovenia.

2. Andrejs Butriks - Lativan international striker, 25 years old, plays FK Ventspils in Latvia.

3. Nicolas Marin - French striker. (No idea who he is?)

4. Cédric Roussel - Belgian international striker, plays for R.A.E.C. Mons in Belgium but has previously played in England for Coventry (who paid £1.2M fo rhim) in The Premiershhip and Wolves (who paid £2M for him).

5. Borut Semler - Slovenian international striker, 22 years old,. Plays for NK Varteks in Croatia. Was previously at Bayern Munich but didn't get into their first team.

6. Andrejs Štolcers - Latvian international striker. 33 years old. Has played in the Premiership with Fulham, also played in League One with Yeovil. Plays for JFK Olimps Rīga in Latvia.

And breathe!!!

And just as I post that last message -

Stephen McPhee has just signed for the 'Pool for an undisclosed fee.

Just found out that Nicolas Marin plays for FC L'Orient in the French top flight (who also happen to play in tangerine shirts!).

Also all the triallists are due to play in what Simon Grayson jokingly called a Blackpool "World XI" tomorrow (along with fringe team players) in Leyland against a Horwich Scum Wanderers team for the club to have a look at them.

Other news and rumours today also includes -

The Noel Hunt bid - seems we are going back in again with a higher bid. Would be a superb signing IMO if we could get him. But it would also probably mean that at least 1 or 2 current strikers would become surplus to requirements.

Paul Tierney and Simon Wiles who had been out on loan at Stockport County and Macclesfield Town respectively have both returned to Blackpool (for now) as their loan spells have ended.

According to the Blackpool Gazette, another (as yet un-named) player might be signing very soon. Grayson is quoted as saying that the players club have accepted our bid (so this isn't Noel Hunt as the clubs bid wasn't accepted) and it is now up to the player whether or not he wants to come to Blackpool.

Not 'pool related, but since I mentioned Paul Dalglish earlier, apparently he has been trying out with Ipswich.

http://www.eadt.co.uk/content/eadt/sport/story.aspx?brand=EADOnline&category=IpswichTownFC&tBrand=EADOnline&tCategory=zsport&itemid=IPED08%20Jan%202008%2008%3A50%3A42%3A587

The 29-year-old Glaswegian has spent the past two years playing in the MLS with Houston Dynamo after leaving Hibs, where he had been signed by Tony Mowbray, and is now a free agent.

After being voted Man of The Match for scoring twice in Dynamo's 3-1 MLS Cup win over Colorado Rapids in November 2006, Dalglish spent a frustrating season curtailed by injury and needed an ankle operation last August.

Dalglish also had loans spells at Wigan, Bury and Scunthorpe before playing at Linfield in Ireland and in Italy with Modena. Injury problems looked to have ended his career and he was looking to launch himself as a media presenter before his career kick-started again at Livingston and then Hibs.

Dalglish knocked in just two goals in 43 league games for Norwich after a £300,000 switch from Newcastle, where his dad was manager.

The striker will link up with the Blues squad for a three-day trial and other players are expected to be looked at over the next couple of weeks.

OK hopefully I will remember all the various new rumours etc so here goes -

Keigan Parker - apparently his move to Barnsley is off and maybe Swansea bound (League One) now. Barnsley had offered £200,000 for him, bid was accepted but Parker turned down the move as he didn't accept their terms!! Now looks destined to go to L1 with Swansea - who are doing very well again this season.

Kaspars Gorkss - rumour in the Gazette that Watford and even Everton have been watching him. Close the transfer window now!!! No way can we lose him!

Lee Miller - we have put in a bid (that has been rejected) for Aberdeen (Scottish Premier League) striker Lee Miller who has one international cap with Scotland.

Carl Baker - League Two winger with local Lancashire club Morecambe who were promoted to the Football League for the first time in their history last season. Rumours going round that we might have put in a bid for him. Would be a good signing IMO. Wolves are also rumoured to be interested.

Andy Taylor - 21 year old defender (left back), currently on loan with League One club Tranmere Rovers from Blackburn Rovers. He spent a short time on loan at Blackpool in 2006. Has this afternoon though signed for Tranmere as he was "worried that he might not get enough games at Blackpool". Blackpool bid £200,000 for him and the bid was accepted. He is probably right though as there is no way he would replace Stephen Crainey who has been superb at LB this season.

I think that's everyone for now!!

Oh my, losing him would be a disaster for the defense (and the offense since he's always a threat to score too.)

Hopefully it is just press speculation. Apparently Everton have been watching him but aren't (yet) going to bid for him. Watford also supposedly had him watched at the Burnley 3-0 home win where he scored and played superbly well. Just got to hope that he stays!

Paul Dalglish is in Norwich on a 3 day trial and hoping to rejoin the club.

Well there is now only just over 6 hours left of the January Transfer Window which closes at midnight tonight.

So far today the only 'Pool activity has been Michael D'Agostino having his loan deal at Cheltenham extended until the end of the season.

From last nights Reserves match reports reckon that a few players impressed the numerous watching scouts -

Keigan Parker apparently played well and may well still get an offer at another club. However, earlier this month he turned down a move to fellow Championship club Barnsley and maybe he will be staying?

Marcus Bean and Simon Wiles both impressed in the Reserves match and both were expected to move today. Maybe Wiles to Darlington on loan. So far though neither player has left Bloomfield Road.

As for players coming in, still nowt, zilch, zero, nadda. So much for all this "we have plenty of money to spend in January". The squad is still desperately in need of new better quality players, yet we have only signed Stephen McPhee this month. Oh and Paul Gerrard to sit on the bench. A former £1m keeper to sit on the bench Great.

Not sure what has happened with Bartosz Slusarski as he was expected to return to West Brom but nothiing seems to have happened yet. Again with him, West Brom paid over £600,000 for him in 2007 yet he can't even get on the bench for us. Yet we won't/can't pay out anything like that amount on players.

And so it came to pass that all hell let loose in the last few hours of the January Transfew Window! At the last minute we managed to get three new players in Paul Dickov, Stuart Green and Pāvels Šteinbors‎.

Green on an 18 month contract, Dickov on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season and Šteinbors‎ alos on loan until the end of the season (from Latvian Virsliga club FK Jūrmala) but with an agreement in place that if he impresses then he will sign permanently after that.

Also no news at all on any further players leaving the club as yet. So no moves for the likes of Keigan Parker, Marcus Bean and Simon Wiles. I would fully expect both Bean and Wiles to go out on loan once the emergency loan window opens in a weeks times, but Parker (unless he also goes out on loan which may well happen I suppose) will have to stay and fight for a place in the team, but he will have a big fight on his hands now.

The other great news is that Wes Hoolahan hasn't left the club, despite constant rumours that he was joining just about every other Championship club with Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and others all supposedly signing him. Yet the club received the sum total of ZERO bids for him in January. Not that he would have left (hopefully!) had there been any bids. Grayson confirmed yesterday that the only bid the club had received was the bid from Barnsley for Parker which he turned down.

Og the joys of football!

Glad ya'll had some luck. We only got shafted with our 2 star strikers leaving for Austria :(

Fortunately, our window doesn't close for INcoming players until End of March/Beginning of April.

We did get one of your former keepers in Caig (met him last night...nice enough guy).

I posted this in the media thread also, but it's an "interesting" wrinkle:

Dickov will be unable to face Watford in the final match of the season due to UEFA rules governing emergency loans.

With Dickov there is a chance we might sign him at the end of the season on a one year contract as he is a "free agent" then with Manchester City letting him go. I suppose his wages might be the issue and of course how he does for us between now and then!

And losing the Dynamo's two top strikers is not good news. Austria isn't exactly a high profile country for their league. Their top flight is the Austrian Bundesliga isn't it? Houston can at least bring in some new players lets hope they will be ajust as good!
