The key thing is that we're judging players by their own established ability. For example, Brad's been outstanding, but that's what you expect from Brad. So I won't even mention him.

First, the bad news.

Ryan Nelsen, who was IMO one of the better players outside the big 4 in the whole Prem since arriving at Ewood, has been very poor this year, I mean Fulham poor. Hopefully he's just having difficulty recovering from injury.

Pedersen, what the hell? He's never been terribly consistent, so in a weird way, I guess he decided to chop away at that weakness this year. Sadly, he's been consistently below average.

Samba has been very impressive...until this year. I've found that in defensive pairings of an athletic guy and an organizer, if one of those guys suffers, they both do. I think that's what's happening this year. Samba hasn't been as bad as Nelsen, but to me, he's not performing to his previous standard.

I know y'all will be tempted to rail on McCarthy, but to me, he hasn't established a level, so I can't say he's underperforming. Same reason I'm not gonna even mention Santa Cruz.

Now the good news.

Bentley, obviously, has emerged as a truly great player. I hope he likes it in Blackburn. Other, richer teams will be calling soon.

Tugay has surprised me with his ability to perform at a good level, and alot of minutes. I thought it would be one or the other.

Thoughts?

Good Year/ season.......

Bentley, Brad, Santa Cruz, Warnock, Emerton, Tugay, Oojier, until his injury.

Bad Year/ season......

Pedersen, shocking!! Savage, Nelsen, against Sunderland he improved, Samba, again he improved against Sunderland, maybe the impending birth of his child got to him? Dunny, very poor, McCarthy, I think now he scored, he might improve.

BTW, did you know, despite Bentley having a Southern (London) accent, his family actually come from Rochdale? Just 30 minutes drive from Blackburn!

For the most part, I concur, although I'd put Samba in the upper group and perhaps the last three in your top group in a separate section called 'having an ok year/season'

good year i would agree with you on the above apart from brad in his last few games i think the defence as a hole as not been great and yes brad is open to critisizum and i did know bentley was from up this part of the world. In fact one of the drivers at work (i work in the motor trade) saw him at park hills car centre in bury looking into buying a car and he asked him if he was here signing for bury fc and bentley said no chance. Who on here does not like ooijer that is going to upset him that he is having a great season lol.

I don't think Nelsen deserves the captain's band anymore -- nor does Tugay IMHO. Rocky, on the other hand, might bring some real leadership. He is the only one who is obviously putting in the effort every match, and I am not just saying that because of his scoring record. He is a class act on the pitch, and he works desperately hard during the matches. You can really tell that he has come from the German leagues, where the work effort is absolutely paramount.

I'd agree with the list although Brad has been a bit shakey lately. Not really with his shot stopping etc but his decisions to come for the ball or stay have been a bit dodgy. Possibly due to the fact that the communication throughout the defence seems to have broken down.
