Splendid.

Can you remind me the last time that England played an U-20 game?

Well, if you want to be specific, Europe does the U-19 championship so that the teams that that do qualify end up going to the U-20 World Cup right when many of the team's players turn 20. We don't get to see England at the U-20 tournaments too much because they can't qualify from the Europe U-19 ones.

I saw more quality in the US U-20 than that England team. I know it doesn't mean too much for the present, but in the end this does all go back to England's worry that there aren't any good youth being developed. The US player development seems to be heading in the opposite direction.

Christ who cares about kids football, I hope some of these trolls that have taken this off topic will get dealt with.

Anyway, David Seaman would possibly have broken the all time caps record if he had been American, due to their chronic lack of even half decent goalkeepers.

This topic was originally created as a joke.

Edit: Apparently, my half dazed self at 1:47 in the morning eastern standard time couldn't even decipher the stupidity in telling you it was a joke.

Whatever, it wasn't created so that you could bang on about crap youth football.

Yeah, maybe I should go to bed. Maybe in my dreams the US will have a World Cup winning team.

I find it funny how McBride's inability to score and Bocanegra's suicidal defence are one of the causes of their problems
Um, I don't know if you're joking, but one of Fulham's problems is that McBride is hurt.

Just curious but how many fulham games have you seen and how many of those did McBride play in?

I've seen about 5 minutes of highlights which is normally enough to judge how good a player is right?

And this thread is another perfect example why England not qualifying for EC 08 felt like an extra holiday to most of Europe. The level of arrogance they display about their own abilities is staggering, and not nearly in line with their performances. The way they behave, you'd think England are world beaters who won the last three WCs and the last two ECs. And I find it funny that they mock the US' quarter-final appearance in WC 02, since the last time they got past that phase themselves is over eleven years ago.

Yes, it's a perfect example.

You should bookmark it so the next time someone asks for (the elusive) proof of 'English arrogance' you could pop up and refer them to this gem of a thread.

Well done you.

You may want to investigate why this thread was started in the first place. You might look to the USA forums for a clue..;)

That thread was perfectly civil(if a little silly) until M, Prawn Sandwich, and Prenn decided that it would be a good place for a pissing contest(what do moderators do?)

And I don't mean any disrespect to you,Three Lions. I consider you to be a very respectful and well informed poster.

I didn't see France or Italy in the U-20 World Cup either.

Considering that there were 5 nations from Concacaf competing and 6 from UEFA it would seem that it is a chance for crap nations to try and feel good about themselves........

i think what's funny is that M used to claim he didn't troll in the yanks abroad forum. this thread clearly proves otherwise and it reminds me of how nice it is to not have him post in there anymore.

funny how worked up you guys are getting that a consensus of about five or six usa players could've cracked the england squad over a decade's span from american fans... of the dozens upon dozens that were called into camps, you guys are taking issue with like... SIX players?

so apparently NO us players can crack england every in any form ever.

also funny how you guys talk about how usa fans assume how great the team is and how they're overrated

the team has grown by LEAPS and BOUNDS over the past 15 years or so... from not making a world cup final in decades to the top team in their region (at the very least, on par with mexico).

this entire thread is in bad taste and was obviously done as something just to piss people off... which M has a habit of doing. really, there's no constructive arguments going on in here and it should probably be closed

Titus Bramble could probably make the USA team.
as an attacking midfielder.

England do a lot of stuff better than we do. I'd have loved to have had Rio Ferdinand and Lee Bowyer (a couple of tuff guys) in our central defense. I'll take a healthy Rooney (he's a tuff guy), and Becks' free kicks in a dangerous position.

And I'd take Dean Windass just for the novelty aspect of it ...

This is because France and Italy were eliminated in the U-19 European Championships. Whether they used their best young players or not is up for debate. But I would be inclined to say that 20 and below isn't the age where players in those countries develop their best talents, as seen by the average ages in their recent national teams.

It seems to me that the latest batch of US players of that age were developed very well, but the big question is whether they will continue to gain more experience. In order to do so they will have to play for the best club teams, something that France, Italy, and England have obviously better recourse to. But Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Portugal always seem to take the tournament seriously, so with those countries in the mix you can't quite say that the U-20 World Cup is crap.

does it make you guys feel good that England is so bad right now you can only pick on the US?
