That was one of the most entertaining two legged match ups I've seen in the CL.
It must have been sublime for a neutral.

True that. Beckham's freekick...
Are there still torrents of either of those games? I'm getting a nostalgic feeling.

holytoledo, saw this out on mininova, I'm guessing this is the 2nd leg but it's pretty vague.

FBTZ usually has one version of this game constantly going, it's a classic for neutrals.

Nah, nobody really from a retrospectice point of view. I sort of look it in the sense of if we'd have bought a particular player then we might not have bought someone else that we did. Sometimes that might be a good thing but the guy might not have worked out whoever he is/ took a particular chance that someone we did buy took/made a particular tackle/ pulled of a particular save / been consistently injured/ whatever.
Of course, there's players I'd have liked at the time but not when looking back.
If we signed Fat Ronaldo when PSV got him, do we sign Andy Cole? Does he then subsequently go on to form a partership with Dwight Yorke that helps us to the treble (if we even sign Yorke)? Does Scholes get a chance in the team? What if he doesn't fancy the weather and pees off to Copacobana beach never to be heard of again? Do we ever sign Ole if we get him the summer he moves to Barca?
I could carry on but you get the picture. Things might have been better and I'm talking negatives so far but we'll never know and I'm happy to leave it like that.
Thinking back, there were a few who we rumoured to be after when rumours seemed to be a little less fanciful in Giorgios Donis, Glenn Hysen and Darko Pancev. Maybe their careers would've been glorious with us, maybe they'd have been cack as they pretty much all were after Donis joined Blackburn, Hysen Liverpool (to a degree) and Pancev got frozen out at Inter. No real way of knowing.
Got my logical/boring/analytical head on this morning. Catch me in a different mood and I'm as open as to this kind of thing as the next person. Think I'm off to watch "Sliding Doors". :D :p

Hate to agree with mardy RoM, but I share his view.
We've been blessed over the years to have had so much success and so many teams that worked perfectly and by doing things as we did the team always felt personable and 'real' rather than a hotch potch of great players lumped together like you get elsewhere. We're losing that identity and becoming a generic big club and as we do, I get less and less enthused by a 'big name' signing than I did a few years back. An example. Rooney coming here was wow for me, Tevez was like meh, which is absurd when you think about how good Tevez has been since 18 or so.
The line of players to excite me to the point I wished they played here ended in the 80's
when we weren't very good and great players were everywhere else but here it seemed (barring Robbo and Hughes)
So I'd go with
1. Dalglish
2. Barnes
3. Maradona
4. Van Basten
5. Gullit
who were all amazing during that era. Not had it since even though Ronaldo is my favourite player ever it didn't particularly bother me that he never played here, I just hoped we'd never have to be destroyed by him.

I'll go with Juan Roman Riquelme...one of my fave non-Utd. players.
