If RBNY were the best team in league and won a lot of championships in the past, would you guys still demand a 2nd New York team?

You guys are getting ridiculous.
It doesn't matter how many titles they have won or how popular they are.
We will always want 2 teams in the NYC area (RBNY fans should as well)
We will always want a team within our city, easily reached by the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
We will always want a team that represents New York, that wants New Yorkers as they're main focus, and not New Jersey.
We will always want a strong rivarly in the North-East, along with Philly, having a centralized focus for MLS.
We will always support a New York team over a Team from New Jersey, and we will always wait for this team to exist.
We will NOT listen to Red Bull supporters berate us because we will not join them and supporting a team that will be our eventual rival.
If RedBull had more fans, and better attendance, they wouldn't be giving us crap about wanting another team in our area. They would join in, in support for a great rivarly for MLS.
But they won't.
And that's not our problem.
We want our team, a team for our City.
Get used to it.

This is the thing and it has been said over and over again, but im not going to get on you b/c maybe you havent seen it. We dont exist for the sheer fact that we hate RB or that we are being selfish or anything like that. We exist b/c we have heard the statements from Garber himself regarding a second team(the first team in NYC). We have never connected with RB for whatever reason and we are excited at the prospect of having our own team. As hard of a pill as it is to swallow for other expansion cities, nothing will compare to a RB/NYC rivalry. An amazing atmosphere with thousands of away fans chanting in English/Spanish and prob many others languages will give the league what it needs. The NY media(the media capital of the world)will not be able to ignore it. People try to say that a Philly/DC/Or NE rivalry with RB wouldnt be just as good, they are not even close to being right.

Yes!! It has nothing to do with the failure of RBNY to win a title. For an outsider it looks like we are being greedy - because we want another team and there are people who dont have one, but I guess we are a bit cocky. We are the Media Capital in the world. We have more than one team in all sports in the area and we got spoiled yes!!

Many people have not taken to red bulls for many of reasons! They league has always talked of a second NY team in the Boroughs! Being born and raised in these boroughs - this idea appeals to me greatly! Its our Backyard! The people of the Boroughs are what makes NY what it is! People who come to NY for a visit normally stay on Manhattan island and dont see the pride of the Boroughers!

even if RBNY was a successful franchise in terms of winning silverware i would still want the second team.... it creates the necessary rivalry
in the NY media market. The queens/metro area is a melting pot from people (soccer fans) from all over the world... it's destined to be a success from the start. RBNY fans should support this move as it will help their sorry cause

It takes me an hour and a half to get to Giants Stadium. Thats 3 hours total travel time for a two hour game. I may go to a game or two next year, but it really can't be a regular thing for me.

If they move the team to Queens, it would take me less than half the time to get there. I would gladly support a team in Queens regardless of their record.

This is another factor for many of people - i mean i have jets tickets - there are times it takes me two hours to get home!!! Getting there can take more than an hour - this is on a sunday morning.

THe MLS has matches mid day and saturday night - the traffic keeps fans away. Especially families on Long island! Which I feel a lot of fans would come from for a NYC FC!

and just to add to my last comment - people will say - i drive two hours to see DC or whatever - but two hours of open road driving is way different than two hours of NY traffic!

Another thing that I think that a few failed to mention and I believe it's highly important. It's that we are pretty much all NY'ers. Born and raised in NYC. We are UNITED in this cause because it's OUR HOME. I'm NOT from Jersey nor do I want to be. I'm a city boy, I take the train, the bus and cabs. I've worked in Manhattan and lived in the boro of Queens. I've laid people to rest in this city as well. I didnt move to the suburbs because someone I didnt like moved in. I had my kids here and I'm going to raise them as NY'ers. All of us on these boards espouse these feelings and sentiments. We all know what its like to sit in traffic, to get caught in the train under the river, cab strikes, santitation strikes, port authority strikes, get parking tickets, police checkpoints etc etc etc. All these things occur in the 5 boros, not jersey.
So when people talk to me and I many of those on these boards as well, about RB being a NY team we laugh. RBNJ doesnt represent us. They never will. Because when you stand next to your fellow supporter you need to feel a brotherhood, a connection that makes you cheer for the same team and to share the same emotion. It's a bond that connects you, that makes you understand why the both of you are cheering for the same team. Its that bond that differentiates you from the losers on the other side of the field.
Its that very same bond and shared experience that makes us want/need/desire/wait for our own NYC team. That's the true difference. It has nothing to do with hardware attained or not. It has to do with brotherhood, where you come from and who you are. I personally AM NOT FROM JERSEY, I'M NY.
