Ottmar Hitzfeld has confirmed he will be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
"I made my decision known to the club's officials three weeks ago," Hitzfeld told SID sports agency.
"I want to leave the job at the end of the season.
"I will now do all I can to win trophies for Bayern in the time left to me."

I guess some of the big complainers around here are getting their wish. Lets just hope that Bayern does not suffer next season because of a lack of continuity in the coaching position.

Getting my wish, I already knew he was leaving at the end of the season. It was only some of you that were hoping for something that simply wasn't going to happen. If he really wanted to stay, he would have made the deal a while ago and not talk like he's not sure. Not suprised at ALL with this announcement. Nekki, that's why I want our next coach to be our permanent one for at least 3 years.
Can you guys tell what this is about?

He said he would make the decision public until late January, didn't he?
Yeah, no surprise.

No big surprise here though I'm glad that he made the announcement now instead of in late January. I think the majority of us knew that when Hitzfeld was hired to replace Magath that he was not going to be a long-term coach because Hitzfeld made it clear that he wasn't. He didn't have to stay and coach this season but he did and it was just a matter of time before he would say he was done with coaching Bayern. I don't know why some would say that we shouldn't be surprised, which was stated in another thread, because we're not.

Pretty much what I expected. I know its BS but I don't like Van Basten's name out there constantly linked to us. Makes me feel a bit uneasy.
And you all better hope we get a good replacement because it can get a lot worse with the wrong coach.

I'm worried now that you'll try and steal our coach again now, just like 4 years ago. Just a feeling, I hope i'm wrong :(

If we get Basten, we are officially and royally ********ed. That is by far one of the worst coaches that we can get. It will be terrible if we get him because he'll do just enough to stay in the job for a while, yet make our team a joke... Goal.com has linked us to him many times and I don't understand why they pick one person and just keep pointing like they know any fuking thing. Annoying ass journalists...

As long Uli himself doesn't say "I want van Basten" this name simpy does not exist in mind, because it would be a dum***s move when there are other and especially proven coaches available

Hopefully Hitzfeld announcing this so early will give management enough time to find the right coach. Who knows, they might already be in contact with Mourinho
BTW, could you guys imagine the atmosphere in the locker room with both Van Basten and MvB at Bayern? Geez....

This opens the door for Mourinho to come to Bayern. I am pretty sure that he will become our next coach.

We won't know if it is the "Right" coach for at least a year and a half.;)
Six months is more than enough time to weigh all the options. Yes, availability is a big factor, but I am sure there will be a few interested parties who are currently in charge of other squads at the moment. And what determines who would be a good fit? Magath was brought in as Mr. Youth...and that didn't really work, did it? Going for say a Mourinho might look good at first glance, but he could be an absolute dreadful fit. Then again, he might be great. You and I are of the same mind when we hope that they should use the time wisely to evaluate a lot of issues when picking a new coach and not just looking at the flavor of the month.

Flavor of the month? He was more successful with Porto than Chelsea, what do you mean by this? If you want a tactical genius, Mourinho or Lippi are the only reasonable choices I see. If you want attractive football, it could be Klinsi and Rikjaard but these could also fail. The first two, I doubt that they would fail though even though I'm not a big fan of Lippi.

I think you are a wee bit too sensitive. Hitzfeld won 2 European trophies with two separate clubs and Bayern's most successful coach....and you don't like him. Also, you are only going with coaches who are currently "available". The field could open up. You also hated Magath, who was brought in because of the youth experience and his success at Stuttgart...he did no pan out as well. If the new coach loses 3 games in a row are you going to say "fire him"???

I'm a woman and I'll admit that we are a sensitive bunch but some of you men take the cake when it comes to being sensitive. :D
I agree with DF, the field could open up. There could be coaches right now who wouldn't mind being at Bayern. So, let's just relax and see what happens here in the coming months. It's better to evaluate everyone and all the options when making this big decision.

I never said I don't like Hitzfeld, I just don't think he's right for Bayern this year as he seems more focused on something else (Swiss job). I have always admired Hitz for our CL glory and it could have been 2 CL titles with him if it wasn't for "I suck the whole game and get 2 lucky goals in last minute United".
