Why take away Uefa Cup goals? Spurs were already a mess last season, it wasn't difficult to notice. Their goal output was just so great and covered for their defensive and tactical incompetence. He still put out great numbers, 23 goals and 15 assists, you can't say the same for many other strikers.
I take away Uefa goals because I'm not really impressed with him scoring against Slavia Prague, Dinamo Bucharest and the ilk.
Assists are subjective so let's just stick to goals then/
16 in 41 appearances is really good but it's not really world class is it?
It doesn't matter whether or not others have had better debut seasons, the fact remains, and it's there to be seen, he's a class player that indefinitely belongs on a class team. He was never a #9 in the traditional sense, just like we don't need one right now. He is a goalscorer though, who does a lot more work outside the box, and he's be an upgrade on every one of our strikers at the moment. He has a good eye for goal and if he is alleviated from performing other duties then he have a better goal output. (Considering we don't even need that that much since our goals can come from so many other places)
Where the hell are the facts that prove he deserves to be in a class team?
I can see the reasons why RVN, Et'o and the rest are in their respective teams but why does Berba deserve to be classed with them?
I agree with your description of his play but I disagree with the pedestal you've put him on.

Ummm what facts do you want? Look at his style, the way he plays, who he's performed against. How can he not be a top player? People said the same shit about Carlos Tevez. "Oh Oh just because he played well at West Ham doesn't mean he can do it at United!!11one" ******** the facts and the figures dude, all you need is your two eyes and your brain to come to the conclusion that he's a freaking class player.

With that logic, we should do the same in the Champions League no? Should we take away Ronaldo and Rooney's goals against an equally weak Kiev side? or when we qualify for the Champions League, do none of those goals matter either?
Assists are subjective...
uhhh...no they're not.

Why are we looking at stats alone though? Have you seen him play. It begs to be on a class team. Do you think he belongs at a club like Spurs? I think he's a class apart from every single player on that team.

You've missed the point. Perhaps I'm rating him because I've followed him for nearly six years now, but his potential has not been in doubt since that first moment I've seen him those six years ago and quite frankly he should have moved away from Germany a year earlier than he did. But there is no question when you watch him play that he deserves to be on a better team. Outside of the top four teams and their strikers, only him and Anelka shouldn't be at Tottenham and Bolton respectively. I'm not putting him on any pedestal, I'm simply clearing up any misconceptions. To me he's done enough to warrant a spot on a better team, and that includes Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, or United. I don't know how anyone can watch him and think he belongs on that Spurs side, it's just beyond me.

Vince (can I call you Vince?), i'm a major fan of his style and the way he plays. He's very easy on the eye but you need a lot more to be labelled world class.
You said look at who he's performed against and this is the question, who has he performed against?
Even though he's a #9 lets forget facts and figures for this one question. Who has he performed against to deserve this world class tag?
Where was he when he against Seville in the Uefa cup, Chelsea in the Fa cup, Arsenal in the carling cup?
Who has he scored his league goals against?
Perfomance wise and goals wise, Berba still seems to be lacking when it comes to being labelled world class.

10goals in the CL does not equate to 10 goals in the CL. Anyways the first good team he faces (seville), he does nothing
I refuse to inflate his goal numbers with goals against Slavia prague et al. I personally don't couny CL qualifiers either as well.:p
I believe CL is the elite while Uefa cup are the wannabe elites.
uhhh...no they're not.
Unless you can vouch for every single assist then they are.
Many people count second assists are first assists and that's why people like Cesc' assist umbers get inflated.
Why are we looking at stats alone though? Have you seen him play. It begs to be on a class team. Do you think he belongs at a club like Spurs? I think he's a class apart from every single player on that team.
If my team buys a #9 then I want him to bang in goals. The flicks and kicks are nice but I would rather leave that to my #10. Goals are the primary goal for #9 and that's what I rate them on most.
Plus I rate King and Keane very highly on the Spurs team. Huddlestone is pretty good too.

Yes his play is very easy on the eye but I want goals!
He is the most technical striker in the league but I want goals from my #9. Which other world class striker has had a worse goal ratio than Berba last year (excluding uefa cup goals)?

I don't think he belongs in that Spurs side either, I just don't suscribe to the view is world class.
15m is a fair price as Spurs make a profit and we get a very good striker. Any more and we're getting shafted.

I think we need a striker that hasn't played in the uefa cup yet, because it makes them no available for the CL and that is when I think we really need a number 9. So if we are going to get berbatov or anelka I'd wait till the summer.

So what about a player who scores against a crap PL team? Do goals against Derby get thrown out?

Well the Brown to Spurs in a part trade for one of their strikers does make sense for both teams. Brown won't sign a new contract and the Spurs are in dire need of decent defenders....just as it's obvious we need another striker and the Spurs have one too many.
I would expect that means Fergie will either go to Scotland, Germany or Porugal for a RB.
I think after the West Ham fiasco, Fergie will pull the trigger and bring in a Striker and a RB this transfer window. To me, bringing in a RB now makes sense. Even if he does not settle in right off. It would give him time to settle for next season.
And if he goes for Hutton, I would not be surprised if we see Fletcher going the other way.

Leff di place. I don't really think that would be a good idea plus I don't think he would be too fond of returning England.

would we ever take a risk on Mutu?
We were very interested in Mutu prior to his move to Chelsea. Now? Why would we add another support (/creative) striker to the mix? Very, very good player but would he fit into the side over the other named options?
